I really need to get Infirmary Blues finished because I've just had a cool idea for a fic for the elements challenge... let me give you a hint.. I was just channel surfing and came across the movie Twister....

Great fic Linzi! I'd just recieved a call from my mum that my brother fell of a balcony last night, and has damaged his back. At this stage we don't even know whether or not he'll be able to walk or not, but he's likely to need some fairly intensive recovery. He can move his arms and fingers, so that's a good start. They probably won't do more extensive tests until after the weekend, though, so at this stage all their really doing is outlining worst case scenarios. I needed a giggle, and that was great to read after waking up to bad news. Thank you.

Thank you to everyone for the good wishes. I've just got back from the hospital, and things are looking up. They've taken the neck brace off, and he's moving all limbs! Very good sign!! They're keeping him still at the moment, but Mum and Dad said he looked heaps better than yesterday. (They only told me this morning, so I didn't see him yesterday. I can imagine the shock when they saw him in a neck brace and his legs immobilised though.) Hopefully the neurosurgeon will see him tomorrow. They seem confident there's no damage to his spinal cord up near his neck, so that's a relief. He's fractured his back, though, and done some damage to his lower back - not sure about the details at this stage, still. We still don't know what sort of recovery time too. I hate it that we don't have more information. Hopefully after he's seen the specialist tomorrow, we'll know more. Thanks again for the support guys. Sorry to dump my problems in here, I was just really shaken up this morning.

Thanks Linzi. Like I said above, the prognosis is still unclear as to what damage he's done, but it seems more positive than yesterday when he was in the emergency ward. They've moved him into the ward now, and he can move his limbs, although he can't move off his back and he has to stay still. Should know more in a day or two.

That sounds promising! A girl I was at school with broke her back in a car accident a few years back and she was up and about in no time, it was amazing how fast she recovered, I hope that it's the same for your brother.

Oh that's awesome news! Thank goodness! I'm really pleased for ya honey... high up the spinal cord, near the neck, is the danger area for paralysation etc.. it's entirely possibleto fracture your back in other places, especially lower down, with no long-term consequences at all. I know it must be a pain not knowing much infiormation for the moment but at the least the news is positive.
