I was actually trying to say the opposite for the Rodney/Weir scenes, LOL! I know everyone has their own opinion on it, that's cool. But for me, I didn't find their scenes to be shippy. It was two really good friends flirting with each other, teasing each other. I have this kind of relationship with several guy friends, so to me, it is very familiar and comfortable. I was just trying to say that I find it frustrating when people are inconsistent with their comments, saying that a certain kind of touch (ie, hand-holding on a deathbed or carrying an injured teammate) can only be romantic when it involves their favorite ship but is only brother/sister friendly when it threatens their ship.
Obviously it's a fine line and obviously sometimes you can have two characters doing the exact same thing and one can be shippy and one not be. But the opposite can also be true and a touch between one character and the touch between another can both be friendship as well. And to deny it outright when it possibly threatens your ship seems a bit hypocritical to me.
Sorry for rambling, it's just that blind and willful inconsistency that drives me nuts sometimes! Sorry!

I know exactly what you mean about others and their intentions are not honest most of the time...so, I"m not referring to what you are referring to here...in other words..I"m not contradicting your post...I'm expanding it and taking it to a different route...LOL

but the way I see it....there can be a couple of things for me to interpret one reaction from one character to another and another...

Like for example....the hug from Weir to John...clearly, that hug was the same hug that she gave

Jack...there should be no doubt there....actually, I think she hugged Jack longer..LOL

Moving on....the scene with John holding to Weir in TRW....and then we see Ronon holding on to Teyla...see, I get the sisterly/brotherly vibe because Ronon is not like John...Ronon is more open and more affectionate with Teyla than John .....go back to Irresistible...Ronon put his hand on Teyla to escort her away from Lucious....go back to Instinct...Ronon easily leaned over Teyla and held her head when she was down...go back to Inferno...Ronon easily sat next to Teyla so close while they waited to be rescued....Ronon isn't John..he isn't held back by touching people that he feels close to...and he showed that in the Return Part 1 when he hugged John and now in The TOR when he hugged Rodney and in Sateda...when he hugged Carson....I think we are going to find that he's very huggy lovey type....I think the only one he hasn't hugged is Elizabeth...we are going to have to start demanding that one soon...so, for me...when Ronon held Teyla's hand in Echoes..it was normal...it was touching...it was something that he does....he isn't one to hide his feelings..and if he likes Teyla..we are going to hear it soon...I think...he's not one to hold things back for long once he gets comfortable..and Teyla is the one that I think he's most comfortable with at the beginning....

Now, John is different....he is a bit odd....in Season 1...he didn't flinch to step forward and put the necklace on Teyla after just meeting her hours before....and yet, we know that he has said that he's not good around picking up on woman's vibe...remember what he said to Chaya right before he planted one on her.....and he did the same with Teer and Meira or whatever her name was...and yet with the blonde in Inferno...he was all over her....

but with Teyla...he knows Teyla..he knows Teyla is not one to fall for his quirks...so he's not going to play with Teyla and he has his boundaries with her....she is too important to him....

so, if John touched Teyla like Ronon touched Teyla...I'd be a bit more willing to accept and call it shippy because of his character...because of what i"ve seen him do and not do around Teyla and compare him with others...if he hesitated...and practically passed out when he padded her hand in Sateda...to the point that he had to leave....then yeah, I think if he held Teyla's hand like Ronon...I see him doing more..I see him rubbing her hands across his cheek, I see him close his eyes as he strokes her fingers across his lips....I see..Okay..I think you get my point...

so, Steph...I know what you mean as far as the comments made by others...but I can't go as far as to say that if one day John grabs Teyla's hand in the infirmary, I won't scream and shout shippy whereas for Ronon's scene and even John's scene in TRW...I didn't find it shippy at all...

did I make any sense whatsoever?

Okay, since I notice a X-Mas theme..and I remember LoveConquers talking about a Christmas Vid....how about someone taking up this double challenge.

Now two people need to work together, one who writes fanfics (short or long, but basically must match vid)---and the song is
All I Want For Christmas Is You by Olivia Olson

Another part of the challenge, get some snow in there, I don't know how you do it, just find a way to figure in some bloody snow! Since Sateda showed us it does get cold in the PG.

Fanfic must be JT of course, McWeir is allowed... Oh and I would like to see Teyla initiate the kiss if there is one...actually Teyla initiates everything!! Tired of John making the first move. But keep her in character.

Hopefully we get this vid on or before Christmas. It's an easy song. Actually I have another, it's really romantic, jazzy and sexy (if that may be of more interest), oh and it is a Christmas song. Just pm me and I'll send it to you.

Oh Camy, I love how you said it and I actually totally agree!!! This is actually exactly what I was trying to say, LOL! What drives me nuts is someone who says contradictory things without backing it up with example or "proof."

Like I said, it's obviously a fine line so sometimes the same action by two different characters can mean exactly the same and sometimes it can mean something entirely different. The point being, it's not just the action itself. You have to take it into context with the story, the character's histories, the body language, tone, emotion, etc, etc.

I was frustrated by the number of contradictory posts I see by people basing their shippiness or non-shippiness just by the action alone, when that same action has been done by more than one character. You know? But what you did was state why one is different than the other. And I totally agree with you by the way. If those same people were to do that, then I could have more respect for their opinion, regardless if I agreed or not.

But anyway, I'm rambling yet again, so sorry! Glad you understood what I was trying to say and thanks for expanding it so beautifully!

And Camy, it's up to you! I'm eager to get artwork, but I really don't mind waiting either. So we can wait, that's fine! We should finally get to see Sunday sometime in Jan, so not too long of a wait. Oh, can't wait!!!!

Speaking of Sunday, does anyone know where these Teyla rumors actually originated from? They just seemed to magically appear one day last summer. Is there any basis to them, meaning were they an actual quote from somewhere that someone can show me? The fact that I can't trace them down has me feeling a little anxious. Since I am after all, one of the "mindless zombies" that follow and believe quotes from the writers, producers, and actors.

Ok, I admit, I did actually make a Christmas vid and gave it to Cyn and it even had snow in it. But I'm not posting it because it turned out AWFUL! I'm too embarrassed to show it to anyone. So it's become trash now, lol. I can't explain what's bad about it, but just trust me, it is!

Like for example...John and Weir's kiss can be interpreted as something similar than with John and Teyla's and yet....we see that the aftermath was a completely different vibe for both parties....so, and the kiss itself was totally different...we've mentioned this here....but hey....John and Teyla's kiss was private...and under an environment that we've interpreted it as something sensual and with sexual tension...their sparring session....the tension during their sessions has always been there..so it was not surprise that their first kiss took place here as well....

so, it is different, the concept, the story, the mood, everything was different....

and so, we can interpret and look at it differently...but of course as shippers it can be debatable...but it has a strong foundation not to mention that we've gotten even more confirmation from the actors themselves...

Steph, I read a small spoiler in regards to Teyla's role in Sunday in the spoilerx site...I think that's what it's called..let me see if I can find it...

That's why I don't find that kiss as a violation...because after watching the ep, even before the slow motion. You even see Teyla grabbing onto his shirt, not pushing him away---so I figured she was surprised by what was coming, plesantly, responded---but then realized John was probably not himself and then started pushing him away.

The kiss is a great example! If you look strictly at the action, then yes, they are the same. John kissed Teyla. John kissed Elizabeth. But when looked at the context, they are completely different. In the context, John kissed Teyla because his inibitions were lowered. In context, an alien kissed an alien and it was not even John and Elizabeth kissing. Not exactly comparable, LOL! And then of course, there are all the things you mentioned! The build-up, with the sexual tension with the sparring vs working on a mission. The setting, a private, very physical moment vs a group moment, trying to uncover a new mystery and having absolutely nothing to do with sexuality or tension. The aftermath, a new awareness of each other, an acknowlegment that he is "John" when they are off the clock, the deliberate build-up of tension and exhaling of pent up breath. Awkward, embarrassment with new awareness vs shrinking down and trying to hide embarrassment, not making eye contact, and brushing it off like it never happened because technically, it never did. It plain wasn't them. Humiliation tension instead of sexual tension. I could go on and on.
