Oh, that sounds like it could be interesing - I'll see how I like "Cube". I already have that one coming.

er...."young blond David"? That sounds lovely. Add that one to the list too.

David Hewlett's been in a lot of movies - I was surprised to see how many when I checked out IMDB.

So, we McKay thunkers take it upon ourselves to extol his gorgeous geeky virtues in defiance of the norm.

And... um... yeah, I should get my over-caffeinated self back to digging through satellite code and get off this.. uh.. soapbox.
BINGO! We have a winner! And Hewlett is appreciated; it can't be that easy to act so conceited all the time....He was great in Childhood's End.

That's really lovely, where did you get it from?

If you manage to work out the intricacies of an Atlantis one I reckon you might have a market for your talents on this thread!!!

I can understand why Allina did what she did. I don't necessarily agree with it, but I understand why she felt that was her only option. I certainly don't hate her for it.

And as for the girlfriend... LOL! I think Doc Heitmeyer would be very surprised to learn she has a boyfriend.

There seem to be some fans who just take McKay at face value and for that reason don't like him and find him really egotistical and annoying while there are others who are able to see that there is a lot more to McKay than first meets the eye. I personally didn't really like him much in SG1 thought he looked so adorable in Redemption but since appearing in Atlantis he has quickly bcome one of my favourite characters. Probably my favourite one on the show actually.

I like the kind of insecure, tortured, conflicted characters because I can totally relate to them and for me its always been easy to see that there is a lot more going on underneath the overconfident exterior of Rodney, probably because I share a lot of those qualities myself.

I guess for some the sarcasm and ego are just facets of the character which put them off looking for any other qualities in him but I love all of the complexities that McKay has and watching him in episodes where we see a glimpse of the man thats underneath. For me its always interesting to see how he's affected by the things that happen and the people around him because then you can see what things he's most affected by and the things he will soften his personality for. The character growth we're getting is totally amazing. It's just great and I look forward to seeing more of what David can do in Season 2. Here's to his already large fanbase getting even bigger

Couldn't agree more. It's as if McKay's trying to keep people at a distance, but he's in a situation which is kinda forcing him to form a bond with those around him. He's probably got more on the line emotionally in Atlantis than he's ever had and he's having to adapt to that and learn how to deal with it. And sometimes that's sending his character in directions he's not comfortable with but as you say the way his character is developing is gradually revealing more of the real man under all the sarcasm. And David Hewlett is doing a stellar job of giving us peeks into all of that.

I wonder if DH is actually thriving on seeing how sarcastic he can make McKay and still keep winning people over with all the under-the-surface stuff!!!

Actually, on that note, it does seem that as the season's progressing, more people are coming out with comments like 'wasn't too impressed/ thought him too sarcastic but now am starting to like him in spite of it/ found myself admiring his performance etc. I reckon even the hardened McKay critics will have to soften to the man sooner or later...

Yep - seem to be lots of people who take that scene and it's lines at face value, but
                  Spoiler:
even Teyla seemed amused by what he said/did - loved the bit where he stumbles around and leaves in wrong direction and has to double back!

                  Ahh, David is good.

Well we know he'll keep McKay 'just as annoying' (that line from Behind the Gate I'm thinking of here) but it would be so interesting if he won everyone over despite that...as if no one can resist McKay for that long

I recall him saying that several times too-it seems like he's adlibbing because he's so good at what he does-but he's really not-

It seems to be the case with Weir too. A lot of people who weren't sure about her in the beginning are starting to warm to her also which I think is great.

As for the comments about The Brotherhood I really liked McKay in that episode
                        Spoiler:
besides seeing his muscley arms when they were climbing either up/down into that caverny thing (I love that mans arms) it was so sweet to see his interaction with Allina(?) Even though she ultimately betrayed him it was so funny watching how he acted around her after the team pointed out that she liked him. He didn't have a clue how to act naturally around her after that which I think is something that points to his insecurities and him thinking hes not as amazing as he makes himself out to be to the others (though we obviously all think he is lol) because surely if he was that confident he'd have known how to act instead of being all unsure and rambling. Also I think we got some clues into how he's a bit insecure around other people. At the start when the team were all laughing at the table I got the impression that he thought they were laughing about him hence him getting all defensive. I think we're slowly getting subtle clues into McKays personality and past and its amazing to watch everything unfold.

I just finished watching Treed Murray!
                          Happy...
My house mates watched it too, despite them teasing me about wanting to watch David Hewlett goodness - but they agreed it was a very good film.
Very psychological - David's character is a real git, but somehow I liked him despite that, feeling that liking of DH would get in the way of true appreciation almost! Like he could play pure evil and i'd still be saying, but I'm sure he's good deep down..

Anyway, it was a very touching film, with lots of panting David (and aciotn David before that, with the running and the stumbling and climbing...) and whumpage and snark too... so just great really. All round different in a good way.
And as my housemates pointed out it would really lend itself to being made into a play.

Just off to make some screencaps for you all

Ford had said to me, “That guy thinks the sun shines out of his ass, doesn’t he?” Ford was young. And often enough the young didn’t have a ****ing clue. When someone is so eager to tell the world how wonderful he is, it’s only because he doesn’t for one minute believe it to be true. Not really, not down deep. Not where it counts. Sometimes a guy like that needs some help seeing himself for what he really is."
