Originally posted by ShipperWriter View PostYes, there are. You can have an "intimate" dinner with someone at an Italian restaurant with candles. Or you can have an "intimate" wedding ceremony with a few family members or friends. Or you can have an "intimate" knowledge of a person's wishes and feelings on a subject. Or you can have an "intimate" relationship with someone that you are very close to, and it may not even have to involve romance, like SR said.
Shall I go on?
Originally posted by ShipperWriter View PostTo celebrate 3,600 posts, I'm posting a short little Sparky snippet from my new fic. I'm not sure about John, I think I made him talk too much. SR, you mind pulling out your red Sharpie for a few minutes?
Spoiler:John Sheppard clicked his pen and someone knocked on the door.
"Hey. Do you have a minute?" Elizabeth Weir asked as she walked inside his classroom, her leather work bag slung over one shoulder.
"For you, five." He smiled. "What's up?"
She pulled a paper out of her bag and handed it to John. "Permission form for the play. If Taylor gets signatures from his teachers, he can audition."
"Great. I'll give it to him at practice later." He took the form and laid it on top of his iPhone. "So how was your day?"
She tilted her head in thought. "Rather good, actually. I only had to write up one student today."
John chuckled. "I had to break up a cat fight in the hallway just after lunch. I still don't get how some girls can be so mature, and some are still using a pacifier."
"I never understood it, especially when I was in school. My teachers gave me such praise for being so mature and responsible, yet I was just being myself."
He leaned forward in his chair, groaning in unison. "You're a unique individual, Elizabeth. Your teachers just saw it early on."
Elizabeth smiled, then crossed her arms. "You're being rather complementary. What's going on?"
"Huh? Nothing," he replied, shuffling his papers in embarrassment of being caught. And here I thought I was being subtle.
She perched on the edge of a student desk. "You know I don't believe that for a moment."
John pretended to look for something for a few more seconds, then gave up and sighed. "What were we talking about?"
Elizabeth smirked and gave him a knowing look. It was amazing that they knew each other so well that they were capable of figuring each other out with a single look. Usually she was better at it than he was; he wasn't good at expressing his feelings, which was the primary reason he was having such a hard time asking her out on a date.
He groaned. "I gotta get going to practice. I'll have Taylor drop this off to you when it's completed."
"Sounds good. Thanks, John, for your help."
As she walked out the door and he sat in his chair feeling like a moron, he brought his hands up and covered his face.
"Anytime," he muttered.

That's what I've read in my mythology books. Is this better? Re actors VS characters - I really don't have that problem/issue/whatever you'd call it (I'm not sure if "problem" is the right word for it). Usually the actor's and character's body language and specifics that go along with it are quite different, and they just come across as two different people (good examples are Mitchell and John Chricton. Or Captain Mal Reynolds and Rick Castle. Or Hawkeye and Aaron Cross - I've written both and I had no problem doing it, even though they essentially have the same face. As for our very own Joe, he's very different as Sheppard and the character he plays in Farewell to Harry. And he's a completely different person when he's himself. Separating one from the other was just never too problematic for me.)
When it comes to not reading about celebrities in general, it has to do with my work. I poke my nose in other people's lives on daily basis and when I get home and stick my nose into fannish stuff I prefer dealing with fictional things. To put it really simply, I don't care and don't want to know what kind of shoes one celeb or the other prefers. Or anything like that. My kind of work either makes you very nosy, or you end up reasoning like I do.
As for intimacy, if I decide to write it, I usually go all the way. Sometimes my approach is explicit, sometimes I just hint at things (this was the case with castle fic - it turns out I can't write smut for all of my ships. I'm not sure why). But stretching my imagination is just... IDK, kind of there. I suppose it depends if certain ship tickles my imagination enough. Now you've given me food for thought!I'm not weird, I'm limited edition.

SPN I actually know a great deal more about the actors because I'm a diehard SPN fan. But canon has opened up the brothers' worlds to intimacy at varying levels, so I'm fine playing along those lines too.
I have no problem reading Sparky smut. Although I do have troubles separating actors from their characters sometimes. This inability has ruined many fandoms for me. I remember I was once so bitterly dissapointed by an actor that I could not enjoy his character anymore, and that sucked because I'd loved that character and I'd been happy in that fandom. The only defense against against this I could come up with was to try and avoid reading the actors' interviews, see them behind the scenes, things like that. It's difficult, though, and I slip up. But I do my best to keep John Sheppard and Joe Flanigan as two completely different people in my head (same goes for the other actors, naturally). I have absolutely no desire to read Joe Flanigan/Torri Higginson porn. I do remember how difficult it was for me when I first got into a movie fandom (before that I was primarily obsessed with books and video games). When I tried reading fanfic for Pirates of the Carribean, I kept telling myself, "You're not reading about Johnny Depp. You're reading about Jack Sparrow. Jack Sparrow, dammit!" It was very hard to overcome that mental barrier. But once i got over it, I had no problem reading sexually explicit fic about characters played by actors anymore. Of course, it helps when actors are very different from their characters in mannerisms and personality.

Now, the red pen comes out.
1. This sentence sounds a bit awkward , so it would be better to say something like, "John Sheppard clicked his pen just as someone knocked on the door."
2. Awkward again. Try "He leaned forward, groaning in unison with his chair."
3.complementarycomplimentary
4. "in embarrassment at being caught"
Now the rest of you see how the sausage is made. You are brave to ask for the red pen of doom to come out in public. Hopefully, I didn't miss anything.

I thought the most intimate relationships on this show are familial rather than romantic in nature...

Spoiler:They have shown sex scenes with the boys and various women, but beyond perhaps the episode "Heart," there isn't much in terms of a relationship there. SPN's strongest relationship is between the brothers. There a relationship between one brother and a recurring character that comes close, but that's about it.
Originally posted by Southern Red View PostYeah, it was the actual scene. Like I said, I'm not sure I want to see Joe like that. But some of the pics of just him are definitely worth a second glance. I wish they would stop casting him against women who seem to have just been chosen for their appearance. But I'm being judgmental. She may be the world's best actor. Who's to say.
In glancing at the actress they cast, well, her resume sort of has that type of scene as part of her experience? *LOL* What's funny is apparently Joe lifts his gun in the same way in all flicks where he carries guns, cuz a few of those pics had me flashing back to his getaway in Lifeline. *LOL*Visit SGArising.com to read our virtual continuation of the Atlantis series!
