Gee, can you just imagine what planning John and Elizabeth's wedding would be like?

Sparky is on screen. Therefore, it is canon. Elizabeth is still out there. And John WILL bring her home.

I approve of your plan. Forget the bride and groom. They have no say in this. I'm thinking John would leave all the planning up to her and then wonder why there wasn't more beer and hard rock music.

Oh and who's writing the vows? SR Jr. and Miss M are writing their own vows. SR Jr. has declared himself done. What more is there to say than "I do?" This should be fun. I keep telling him that sometimes they make you say "I will", but he's not listening.

And Miss M hasn't decided if she's going to promise to obey. I'm thinking probably not at this point. I love weddings. Especially if they're not my own.

IDK, while I would have loved to have seen more of that type of stuff, it'd be more along the lines of Quarantine's pigeon story. In other words, stuff which adds to the characters, but doesn't bring the story to a grinding halt

Very true. It was the deep emotion from those moments in Adrift and also in Lifeline that solidified the idea that John cared deeply for her. Ship or friendship, whatever floats your boat. But he did not hate her or even dislike her or was in the least bit indifferent to her. If that is someone's opinion, then they need to take another look at canon.
So true. He was never that relaxed on the show with anyone.

I would point to The Last Man as an illustration of John's reaction to the deaths of each of his team. He's stunned and shocked and sad but in no way reacts more to one than the other or is not able to keep on with the task at hand. He holds them all in his heart. They are family. Look at his face in Reunion when Ronon says he's not coming back to Atlantis.

        Spoiler:
        http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a182/southernred/normal_atl_403_455-1.jpg

That's almost a woobie face. Ronon is his buddy, so it makes him sad that he's losing him. Look at him in The Shrine, moving heaven and earth to save Rodney. Same for Teyla in The Ark, and heck, look at the lengths he went to to save Keller in The Seed. I don't see any difference in any of those. And to be fair, it's not that different with Elizabeth except by degrees. There seems to be more emphasis on his reaction to losing her, getting her back again and losing her for the last time. As a shipper who has been told she is a raving loon for loving Sparky, I wonder why they continued to feed my delusions. It's a puzzlement.
^ THIS. Everything seemed to be tailored to his reaction to losing her in Adrift, which only highlighted the fact that it was different to losing other people.

Gorgeous new artwork, syfyfan! I especially like how you've got the Sparky kiss in the middle of a rose, great imagery!

I have always loved those kind of 'slice of life' moments and I am bound and determined to get them into the story as much as possible. Life in Atlantis isn't all about killing Wraith and finding Ancient doohickeys. We've got to see everyone's downtime too. Without the dumbass exploding tumors.
^ As above. I dont want to know what they had for breakfast, but the odd bit of personal information (that doesn't make it look like it was cooked up specifically for the plot) adds more than they realise

Yeah, really. You said it yourself: It's the symbolism. And it's a pretty good use of it. Brutal, but good.
Part of what jarred with me in that scene is that with the spoilers I'd read, I assumed she'd gone out of her way to do something and had been injured as a result of that. Looking out the window (why????) generally is a non-event. And why did it blow her backwards? If anything, she should have been sucked outwards *shrugs*

It is indeed puzzling, my friend. Why keep doing it if they didn't mean it on some level? Methinks TPTW protest too much.

Hello to Probie! Nice to see you around.

SR - sorry about your house issues. I can do the music for the wedding. I have a very eclectic set of tunes on my iPod. I'm sure I have stuff they would love.

Uhh, having a crummy few days so I don't have the energy to really say anything. Just wanted to check in and say howdy.
        Hope you feel better soon

Reverse the order and you'd be about right. with Mayel at the top of the list of course

Out of those 3 probably Teyla. But personally I'd think my favorite non Elizabeth love interest for John was Teer.

Hard to say really, isn't it? Nancy represents his past - one that didn't work out. Teyla 'gets him' now, but with her I think it's all in who is writing it. It could work out really well, or it could be a train wreck. Teer would suffer the same criticism. I think the stumbling block with her would be how she would adjust to John's life on Atlantis. If he'd never left the Sanctuary enclosure, then Teer hands down, no question. (sorry Lizzie)

*cracks up* Then again, it might depend on where the wedding was being held. If it's in Atlantis, bet on the Athosians coming and bringing along some of their Ruus wine. I imagine it could turn into a pretty wild party!

Yeah, just simple little bits of anecdotal background. Something to give them more depth beyond their work in Atlantis.

Remember, the city got hit just as they were raising the shield. At that point, they were still at a low enough altitude that there was breathable atmosphere outside; it was no doubt thinner than at sea level, but they weren't in hard vacuum yet. The explosion happened outside the window, so as that explosive force radiated outward from the point of impact, it pushed anything in its path before it; in this case, the window, and thus Elizabeth, were pushed away from the explosion and further into the gateroom. Gotta love physics.

Of course, Teyla really shouldn't be under consideration anyway, as she's off the market now that she's with Kanaan. No breaking up a happy family here. But Teer? Yeah, I could possibly see her if he'd never left the Sanctuary, as you suggested.

Bad traffic accident music? Ok, there's a few different styles of music that I think qualify. You'll have to be more specific.

They'd dance in the gate room to Etta James's "At Last", sung by Teyla. Not that I've thought of this in any detail before.

I just think that's an awesome wedding dance song. Yes, I am a sap. I can admit that on the internet with the beauty of its anonymity.

I want to know what they have for breakfast! I'm thinking Elizabeth would go for a croissant and fruit. John... hmmm... I would imagine he'd want a hearty breakfast because of all the exercise he does. So I'll go with eggs and bacon. Bacon IS the food that makes other food taste better.

Not really, nobody needs one of those I went to a wedding once were we had to escort someone out at 8pm. They vomitted about 5m away from the door. Again, and again, and again. Then the staff asked us to move him further away. It was the first time I ever held a baby though. /random

BSG seemed to be good at it, although I wouldn't hold them up as the standard for character interactions *cough*Kara/Lee*cough*

Remember, the city got hit just as they were raising the shield. Yeah, but at about 18,000ft (maybe more, maybe less, Rodney got distracted and didn't hit the button fast enough) the pressure difference between the control room should have been substantial. We don't really know the properties of the beam itself (presumably it would have had an explosive force, given its earlier impact on the shield and how it severed the conduits in the control tower) other than it contained a lot of energy. Presumably the reason there wasn't a noticable pressure change was because of the relatively short period of time between the blast and the shield being raised. One might even be able to make a case for life support actually existing outside the buildings, given that the window was never repaired (and also, they were on the balcony whilst they were underwater).

In hindsight, it's a wonder they went down the route they did. Given that it was an Asuran beam, they could have had her simply be hit by it, which caused her nanites to reactivate.

Of course, Teyla really shouldn't be under consideration anyway, as she's off the market now that she's with Kanaan. No breaking up a happy family here. But Teer? Yeah, I could possibly see her if he'd never left the Sanctuary, as you suggested.
Some people see the former's marital status as no barrier *whistles innocently* With the latter, I think within the Sanctuary would be the only place it could work. I don't know, it's been a long time since I watched the episode

John, you gave me your mission reports an hour ago. I'll go through them later. Why are you here?

So I can escort you back to my quarters and see whether you're a Commander in the Control Room and the bedroom

                      Touche

Teyla: Let me stop you there Major. Firstly, I've heard that one before. And secondly, now would be a good time to tell you that I'M PREGNANT

                      Lorne: Colonel, would.....

Carter: NO, Major, Teyla told me you've already tried that one on her.

Lorne: Aw come on! I can't catch a break

I just think that's an awesome wedding dance song. Yes, I am a sap. I can admit that on the internet with the beauty of its anonymity.
Naw, I think that's what Chuck would probably play on citywide speakers after John and Elizabeth announce that they're getting married. With everyone in the city's betting pool singing along.

John would so love his bacon. I'm sure we could work in a breakfast scene. Not unlike that cute little lunch scene in Tao of Rodney.

Yeah, it looked to be only a few seconds between the beam strike and the shields closing all the way; that's probably as good an explanation as any.

Sparky is on screen. Therefore, it is canon. Elizabeth is still out there. And John WILL bring her home.

BACON!!!! (I missed this the first time ) Although I doubt he would be having it every day, he doesn't have the motor for it

And with the inside/outside life support thing (although it probably wouldn't have been activated then anyway) that explains any pressure differential anyway.

Now that could've been a wicked twist.
Especially if the beam didn't do any real damage, but rather it infiltrated the city network while she beat up everyone in the control room. Mind you, it's easy to come up with 'what if' scenarios a few years after the fact. I hope this idea was discussed in the writers room though, I'd like to think they considered all their options. Given how the Carter coming to Atlantis idea evolved (and also the Carter/Odyssey scenario) it's possible they considered this then discounted it. It was partially covered with Teyla during Submersion

He and Carter hooked up in my version of the Altantis movie, I thought i'd move it into a cap scenario Plus he was the only Major left who wasn't toast

Heh. While I was looking for those, I discovered these caps. Take a look at the first two. I'm not sure what order they appeared in (the order I saved them in is likely to be different) but for all of those who say they mirror each other, those two screencaps are a good example

You haven't been a Major for some time now John

                            Well sure, not by rank.

That's true. We should invite the Major out, just for old times sake

Really?!? Coz I've got him locked and loaded, he's ready at a moment's notice

Steady on Colonel. At least wait until we've left the control room. And Godspeed will not apply in this case, okay?

Bad traffic accident music? Ok, there's a few different styles of music that I think qualify. You'll have to be more specific.

I have the other stuff, though.
That would be your metal rock/hard rock, whachacallit with lots of guitars that make your ears bleed and loud drums complete with screaming vocals that make no sense. As you can see, I'm not a fan. Anything else except rap is okay. The groom likes bagpipe music, which could be problematic for the rest of the guests.

I want to know what they have for breakfast! I'm thinking Elizabeth would go for a croissant and fruit. John... hmmm... Ummm, bacon! They were always eating a lot of fruit and salad on the show, which made me wonder where it came from. I guess it could be explained away by hydroponic gardening and/or the Athosians, but oranges?

                              Physics is fun!

John, being John, would have stayed with Teer if he hadn't been rescued. And been miserable for the rest of his life.

Teyla is indeed off limits for canonical reasons. Breaking up a family is not the Stargate way and anyone who does it is going against established canon. Fanfic does it and that's okay, but officially, it would never have been allowed by anyone paying attention.

Somehow, I doubt TPTW ever thought that far. It's just too cool for them.

They could always be growing their own trees. I think citrus trees will start bearing fruit after a couple of years. They won't be big crops, but it could be a rare treat.
