Also I got spoiled watching Stargate with 21 episodes per season 1 to 7, and 20 episodes Season 8, 9 and 10.
Now they can't manage to get into double figures for a season.
Of course it means having to rewatch the whole thing from the beginning so you can understand the new episodes. So the streaming services get more traffic.
The shorter seasons also mean that the streaming services have more money to spread around among multiple series. It's a cost-saver, and it allows greater variety in programming for customers.

Sparky is on screen. Therefore, it is canon. Elizabeth is still out there. And John WILL bring her home.

And ratings don't matter anymore either, as CBS has proven in April. They cancelled (without notice I might add) NCIS: Hawai'i which out of all their shows, held a top 10 viewer rating each week. They swapped a diverse cast out for an all-white male cast they designated as "fresh" for next year.

To which I'm saying "Stick your Origins show where the sun don't shine."

Federal, regional and European elections all in one, and we're doing it all again come october when it's provincial and communal.

But I do miss a good filler episode with the shorter seasons. Shows now are all 100% plot all the time.

Yeah, that whole decision has a bad stink to it.

That's very true. Some of my favorite episodes have been standalones with awesome character moments and wonderful bits of worldbuilding that have nothing to do with the latest story arc.

I am So. Done. With. Politics. I've had to block any number of keywords and tags and even temporarily mute some people across social media to stay away from it. My social media presence is strictly for fandom interests, and my fandom interests are, for me, a break from real life stupidity for the sake of my mental health. I don't want that sh!#e intruding on my safe space.

I hear you. I always tag my politics stuff on Tumblr with "us politics" because I know not everyone wants to see that.

The second half of the Bridgerton series is coming out on Thursday, so my dash is about to be become 100% Bridgerton, 100% of the time. I've got complete brain rot.

Awesome! Especially since I don't have Netflix, so I've got to live the Bridgerton life through the rest of you!

Election 1 is over and done with, and far-right didn't win... sort of anyway... they score high but it's the right/center-right who takes the highest score.

It's a tradition in the media to give nicknames according to the party colors and how they form alliances to form a government. We will most likely have a yellow/red/orange combo for the next 5 years (right/socialists/catholic-democratics) which also happen to be the colors of a very popular ice-lolly, namely a Rocket.... so they will be called the Rocket-Alliance.

At least something fun comes out of this ****show.

                      IKR? Coalition politics is WEIRD.

Remember Belgium holds the dubious Guinness World Record of having no federal government formed for a period of 541 days after election day. Just saying...

Any other country would have fallen into chaos, we just carried on like nothing was wrong.

For those not in the know, Belgium has 5 (yes, 5) official governments: Federal, Flanders, Walloon, German speaking-area and Brussels Capital Region. They are made up of different parties which form a majority coalition to rule and the rest goes into the opposition. The party with the most votes gets to decide who they want to rule with, and who gets to be Prime Minister.

Voting for Federal, Regional and the European parliament** is mandatory from the age of 18. In October we have to go back to vote for representation in our localities and provinces -- the management of the cities and villages. This vote is no longer mandatory so if you don't want to go, you won't have to.

** As of this year, also mandatory for teens 16-17 years old.

Mandatory? Sometimes I think we should do that here, it would certainly solve the low voter turnout problem. Problem is, education on politics and civics has been severely lacking for the last few decades, so we'd have to fix that first.

                            Indeed.

"Voting is compulsory in Belgium. This means that you are obliged to vote. The Constitution states that voting is compulsory and secret."

Obliged doesn't mean you have to vote on anyone. You can make your vote not count by drawing on the papers if you still have to color the checkboxes, or you can leave them blank. If you vote on a computer (like in our place) then you can't muck it up but you can leave your vote blank.

The local ones in October are the first elections which are not so that will be a sort of test to see what the percentage will be of people showing up.

Mind you, there were about a million people this time who didn't show up to vote which can result in a fine up to a 1000 euro. Generally speaking they are given a free pass, except for people who have been called up to sit in as witnesses to the count and the run of the lines. Usually, those presiding over the voting places are members of the legal community or notaries. Everyone else is usually picked from the 30 year old age range. It's basically a "rite of passage" for 30 year olds. Like being called up for jury duty

See? That's what we need here. More opportunities for people to participate in their civic duties, learn about how it works and why our system was designed the way that it was, and gain a greater appreciation for it. Kids these days.
