Ever since I met Don Davis in 2005 and asked me whether I was a fan of the New York Yankees baseball team (which I wasn't, I just thought the hat looked cool), I've been following the team on and off. You know, FB tells me whether they're winning or loosing.

You've got the right idea. We get very emotional about our teams in every sport just like other countries do about soccer football. Mr. SR and I had about 3 heart attacks each watching Virginia Tech on Sunday night. I love watching football when I don't care who wins more than when I have an emotional stake. We call it "having a dog in the hunt". LOL

Congratulations to the Tennessee Volunteers for their 42-41 double overtime win over Georgia Tech! What a nailbiter!

Years ago we were in TN the weekend of a game between UT and Alabama. Out at a popular BBQ restaurant we enjoyed the singing of Rocky Top coming from one area followed by "Roll Tide!!!!" coming from another area.

Yup. It's still fun when it's your team, but I enjoy the game a lot more watching whoever's clobbering UCLA.

For us it's a long list: UVA, Miami, FL State and anybody who's ever beaten us badly.

Or as we say, "I'd rather be a Hokie than a Wahoo." You have to be from Virginia to get that one. lol

For us it's a long list: UVA, Miami, FL State and anybody who's ever beaten us badly.

Oh and I forgot Notre Dame (of course, they're not in our conference, so they're kinda forgettable in that regard, LOL). The Irish and the Bruins are our longtime traditional enemies. Though Stanford is now starting to gain on them with all the spoilers those wretches have pulled on us in recent years.

Wahoo is the nickname for University of Virginia students. There are a number of stories about where it came from but I choose to believe the one about it being a fish that can drink twice its body weight. Heh.

If memory serves, UT inherited one of it's least popular coaches from Sk's USC- Lane Kiffin, though I think he spent time with the Raiders in between. I'm pretty sure he went back to USC after he left UT (or rather, was escorted out of the state under police protection as there was a riot on campus. I'm not proud, but it is football in the South) and it only went downhill from there for him, though I suppose he helped USC win a lot of games over the years.
