Richard Woolsey/Robert Picardo Discussion/Appreciation

Maybe Woolsey has an estranged daughter or son on the Atlantis expedition, and wants to try to connect with them?

well, I somehow doubt he'll be bringing his wife to Atlantis... so that might put tension in the marriage. It would rock my world if he was allowed to bring her, but what if they have kids? What about kids who are out of the house and she wants to be near them so she can play grandma. It could be interesting, but more likely the writers will just have him take the ring off and pretend nothing has happened. I kinda like the idea that Col. Ellis is married with kids and he gets to see them whenever he's home, like a sailor who goes off to war but gets to come home for a week or so once a month?

neither do i, but maybe he could mention a wife or say something. or maybe that's the reason he took the job, a bad divorce? ohoh maybe she got the kids and he's all alone, so he ran away to another galaxy!

You know, I'm really looking forward to having Woolsey in S5. I know its a shame that Amanda Tapping can't stay on but I loved Robert Picardo in star trek.

I'm guessing we may love to hate him at the beginning of the season and I'm wondering how he'll re-invent himself as time goes by.

Anyway, it should make for interesting viewing.

Meh, I'm done. What to you think? Picardo just left his ring on? How does Costuming for TV shows work? Do they tell Bob to come in in whatever suit he has? I guess I just wonder if the costume department let him keep it on, suggested he keep it on, or the producers,writers,directors,whatever also suggested he keep it on?

I'm kinda sad that I couldn't find any cap of his left hand from "The Last Man"... but here's a cap:

You know... a lot of the Anti-Woolsey fans are going to say "do you expect us to LIKE him??" And I think... "no". In fact, when he's first introduced, none of the Atlantis team is going to be happy to see him. In fact most of them will hate him for a few episodes.

Got to agree with you there. I bet at first we are all going to be grinding our teeth and praying for something horrible to happen to him BUT it will be interesting to see how he turns that around. I suppose he'll make some really crap decisions at the beginning.

As for the suit. Wellll, I suppose that thing he has on may grow on me, it's just I'm used to seeing him looking all smart and shiny.

And the ring. I wondered if it was Robert Picardos that he just hadn't taken off. I suppose the writers could make out that his wife is dead or he's divorced. I guess we'll have to wait and see!

Perhaps his wife died & he felt he couldn't stay on earth any longer so that's why he is going to Atlantis.

awww no! that would be so sad. although yes it would make excellent angst and a great way for him to open up and seem more... well "human" to the audience

I think he needs his "own" episode in the new season to establish his character and give us some background. Something to make us more in sympathy with him.

I got the impression skimming through Joe Mallozzi's blog that, while we may not have a Woolsey centered episode, I think "Seed" and "Broken Ties" are supposed to have plenty of good Woolsey moments. (by good he might mean horrible, lol!)

Don't worry. We know hardly anything yet! So what we don't know we just speculate on & as that's just about everything, we will have to make stuff up!

Here's a question: Do you think Woosley will be around for more than one season?

As far as when he'll have an episode in season 5... I don't it's spoilery to assume that the first episode will probably wrap up the cliffhanger and so we might see him in the first episode but I doubt he'll get any focus until maybe the second or third.

What I know (mostly from JoeM's blog)

Spoiler:

He is in the 2nd episode Seed, which I think is where he and Sam switch places. The 3rd ep BT is supposed to have some moments for Woolsey and for Teyla considering it's a Ronon-centric ep. The 4th episode doesn't sound very Atlantis Centric "the daedulus variations" so I don't know if we'll see him at all. The picardo article does say he'll be in the 5th episode "ghost in the machine" and I particularly look forward to that one. After that I have no idea.
