In real life he was basically Thomas Edison's rival. And he PWNED Edison with all epic awesomeness!!!! Pretty much every electrical/robotic device we use was somehow invented by him. The alternating current system we use today to get electric power was developed by him. He invented the radio and robotics. He also developed remote-control technology. He basically came up with what would be called the particle beam weapon (nicknamed the "death ray"). And if you've ever seen the movie E.T...when E.T. tries to "phone home" with the radio...yep, that was originally Tesla's idea. He claimed he was getting radio signals from Mars.
And he also had ideas that would eventually become the TV and the Internet...he was pretty much a freaking genius...anyway, wikipedia does it better
