Heh. Well, we can't agree on everything, right?

It's kind of interesting though that novelizations would take that tack. I'm not big on novelizations of any kind because I tend to regard them as glorified fanfic (which I dismiss out of hand). But when even the fanfic seems to be taking the "alright, back up, let's get this back on track" approach....

Yeah, no, same here. I've read a couple of SG-1 novels and I had a mixed feeling about both. They weren't bad by any means, but they really did just feel like glorified fanfiction. No denying that.

That's what I'm saying, though. These 'glorified fanfic writers' -- no disrespect intended -- are well-aware that the show needs to get back on track, with or without the... show.
If you've seen a Jeff O'Connor or a JeffZero or a Jeff Zero or a JeffZeroConnor elsewhere on the net, there's a considerable chance it's me.

There's an AU out there somewhere in which every last one of the creative blunders concerning SGU were nullified in favor of something compelling. You know what really makes me laugh? The new SGA continuation novels slated for release late next year talk about the team going off and uncovering the 'true legacy of the Ancients' at long last or something like that. Why didn't we go find that true legacy by the third season, exactly?

I liked the show more than you did, of that much I'm certain. But it's really next to impossible to ignore its failures...
Yeah I'm actually in the middle of my first (and possibly only) complete SGA Rewatch (on S4 right now), and it is absolutely stunning how good the first season was compared to the rest. Especially when most of the mistakes like you said were so obviously the wrong thing to do. The sheer number of eye roll moments from S2 on is staggering. Keep in mind I like SGA a lot, lolz.

Another thing I've noticed is that unlike in SG-1 it seems like every major story line that was explored in the show would get to the point where one it ended, I was glad it was over. The Replicators, Michael, and others. And for me, Michael is the real shame, I think he was such a great character but by the time killed him off it was like "finally!"

I could probably go on more about that, but as to the topic of the thread, I guess Ford is dead. The sad thing about this debacle is that if they were worried about wanting to leave the door open IT'S SCI-FI!! If they came up with a story for him, they could just bring him back anyway.

          Perfecto!

I'd like to think that Ford is still alive out there working with what remained of his crew to fight the Wraith. I liked Ford's under-developed character before and after he became Super-Ford. After he left, only having one Earth military man on Atlantis' flagship team just seemed really off and unlikely to me. Either way, the odds of him dying are really stacked against him.

In the end of The Hive, we can clearly see that he is almost exactly back to normal like he was before being infected with the enzyme (even if he was still using it) so if he escaped I fail to see why he wouldn't contact Atlantis and let them know he survived. We never hear from him again, we never see any evidence or hear anything about another band of people fighting the Wraith.

As much as I hate to say it, I think it's pretty clear that he sacrificed himself on that hive ship for his friends. It was a pretty heroic end to a good character. It was still a real shame. I was never a Ronon fan, and definately liked Ford way more. I might get some hate for that, I don't really know the Ronon fanbase on these forums, but that's my opinion. I would have liked him to stick around and develop his character more. In the Rising episode we see that he is a more experienced gate-traveller than John. He probably had been with the SGC for over a year and it would have been cool to continue him.

Oh well, it seemed like the writers had an idea for a younger, weapons specialist but abandoned the idea without really trying to think of any ideas for him. It seems some of these ideas have gone into the creation of Greer for SGU. Definately not for the character at all but the younger, weapons specialist aspects.

Something that regrettably happens in real life.

Actually it was Bates who went back to Earth, because he got injured.

I think they made it pretty obvious he died. You have the scene where John is imagining Ford telling him he never saved him. I think that was tptb saying, "yup, he's dead, quit asking us."
