They're urban legends, none of them are even real.

A family show than until recently aired a 10pm? SG-1 is arguably a family show, but Atlantis isn't.

its reall hard for writers to do that because they don't want to turn off some viewers to the show and not every miltary guy has to curse other wise its just jerry springer with a dieffertn name.

        ATLANTIS FOREVER

Well i dont live in the USA (i dont even live in the same hemisphere) but if Atlantis spent majority of its time on a 10pm slot then its clear then that it isnt a family show. Most 10 year olds would be in bed by 10pm and thus wouldnt see the show.

Men in drag can be scary, I work with guys in drag 4 nites a week and trust me.. its scary most of the time

-as for the comment about it being a "family" show.. eh.. I dont buy that.. its much later than family programming and the themes are a bit too complex for a slightly younger audience..

Thats why I am not sure how SGU can get a YOUNGER audience.. how much younger do you want your viewers? 8 and 9 years old? LOL

People are underestimating how old the Stargate audience actually is, according to some Nielsen figures, the average age if the viewers Atlantis was pulling in were nearly 50, so when they say younger audience, they're talking people in their 20's and 30's, not teenagers and kids.

I agree that Atlantis has become more and more "Stargate SG-1 lite". But I don't think you can solve this problem with more sex and nudity. I think the key is to eliminate the corny jokes, the light-hearted theme music that is in virtually every episode, and then make the characters more professional. My friend, (who does not watch Stargate consistently) came down stairs when I was watching some season 1 of SG1 had this grimace on her face because she couldn't fathom how unprofessional the characters were behaving. For example, we were watching "Enigma", the epsiode where SG1 meet the Tollan for the first time and she said, "They can bring aliens back to earth????" It's in those types of situations where I think SGA can improve. What would the leaders of the Stargate program REALLY do in that situation? It seems to me that the characters of SGA consistently react on emotion and not on protocol, and THAT'S why people regard the Stargate franchise as not being as realistic.

And another way that they could make the show seem more realistic is alternate the character dynamic. Let's face it. SGA uses Shepherd and McKay to save the day pretty much all the time. But in last week's episode "Identity"
                Spoiler:
Ronon changes that by blowing up the device that was causing the problem.

Also getting rid of Rodney's techno-babble would relieve my mother's nerves. She essentially has a seizure every time Rodney starts babbling. SGA could really attain more viewers if they just eliminated more of that confusing language. It doesn't do anything for the show.

My idea of Stargate heaven is an episode with a lot of technobabble. It adds that bit of pseudo science to a science fiction show.

Lets look at the bad guys, Goa'uld were a rather over the top melodramatic (almost comic book) kind of villian and as a result it was kind of hard to take them seriously which meant SG1 was a rather light hearted show. Compare this to the Wraith who in the first season were certainly not a comic book bad guy and could be rather intimidating at times (especially on the hive ship). They were a much darker and more dangerous kind of bad guy. Unfortunately after afew seasons they lost that edge to them which they had in season 1 (i personally think they should have been scarier and darker than they were in season 1)

Something which i personally would have liked to have seen is Stargate Atlantis as a slightly more adult show with a scarier villian aswell as more realistic violence, more adult language (not even the military personell on Atlantis swear) aswell as some more sexual situations.

It would have been really interesting if the writers decided to make Atlantis into a show which is a mixture of Stargate SG1 and Battlestar Galactica.

Does anyone else agree or am i on my own on this one?
The shows fan base is mostly "science" geeks. The last thing we're interrested in is soap opera's. A large part of the fans are also teenagers and kids.
So ..no, SGA didn't need more "adult" themes.Veeeeeeeeeeeeeery Slightly maybe.Very very very slightly.

That's what the figures say. You can tell just by the ads that show up on Sci Fi during the breaks, when Stargate is on half the commercials are for Viagra type drugs!

I dont recall saying that i wanted that either.

Im just saying that the show should be abit more realistic in its portrayal of certain situations.

eg All combat scenes look too composed and clean. Now ive never been in combat but im willing to bet that it is very bloody and alot of coarse lanaguage takes place as it is a life or death situation. Combat is very PG in the stargate universe and it would have been nice if the writers and directors made it abit more realistic.

Season 1 of SGA, which I watched again recently, was quite dark, desperate, and claustrophobic in a way. The Wraith we evil and truly dangerous, perhaps unstoppable. It made the show very tense.

Successive seasons are also quite good, but for different reasons. Its more lighthearted and not so serious. Still a great show, but go back and watch Season 1, it almost seems like a different show.

In short, yes, I wish they had kept it darker and more desperate. A more adult-leaning concept that was still fun to watch but still has its lighthearted (mostly darkly) comedic moments.
