IMHO, I think those of you that DIDN'T think the episode didn't make the episode good, don't have a good taste when it comes to art of story telling. Story telling includes the story, characters, visuals, AND sounds which includes music. For instance how many of you could do without the Atlantis theme song. How many of you cried when they took the theme song away? Many of us. We wanted the theme song...thus music is very important in an episode. I suggest watching the end of the episode without the music and then reply if it was as good. I doubt the end will carry as much weight without it. Not because it was a bad ending but because the addition of the song made it so much better. Frankly, I applaud RL and the Stargate crew! Just as I applaud the Battlestar galactic crew when they added the Celtic/ Irish melody in the ending of some of their shows. Music inspires. Personally, I need a well rounded show, with visuals, music, story, and characters. That is what makes a good show and that is what will keep me coming back week after week. Thanks.

I'm working at a tv-station and I keep hearing it over and over again, that Sound/Music is one of the most important component of Films and even in TV!
There was a Film called "Heaven" with Cate Blanchett, the director left out the sound nearly completely...it was a really special Film, but you really noticed that something is missing!
Try to watch an episode and note how many minutes they have sound underlayed...you'd be surprised
I think the ending scene wouldn't have been the same without this song!

BTW I have a "wonderful" idea: next time maybe a Wraith will sing us a song, maybe a song celebrating his food and his will, and maybe the food will sing too ("oh no, don't eat me, I'm too young to die/too old for this s@#t" something in that line) and will have some bumble bees and everybody will be happy, especially the Wraith.
Music is a very very important part of a show (TV show in this case) but everything has its limits. TPTB exceded their musical limit between good addition and cheesyness.
BTW nobody the music during the opening credits doesn't count. But someone singing after the opening credits counts.

This song reminds me of a song I have heard before. Is this a remake of a song done by another artist, or an original song? Does anyone know?

I agree, Rachel's voice is AMAZING. I really do hope they allow her to sing again.

I agree also that this song will probably (I say probably cause in the states we have not seen Critical Mass) make this a Stargate classic. I have seen a vid done for the episode by Torri http://delcroixjeanluc.free.fr/213/CriticalMass.wmv and it almost brought me to tears the first time I saw it. So if the song goes along with the episode as much as that vid does, wow!

I hope for no other "opportunities" of a main character, recurring or otherwise to sing on this show that isn't about songs. Hell, if you like actors singing in movies watch Fred Astaire's or Gene Kelly's movies.
