Why are people counting England and Scotland separately?

Because Carson's uniform had the St Andrews Cross on it rather than the Union Flag, therefore it is logical to assume english members of the expedition would have the St Georges flag rather than the Union Flag. So if the show defines them as different by using different flags then surely we should define them as different too.
