    The Truth Is Out There:

Here's an example of 'no malice' from our friend Darth Buddha:

'Yet again, you pitch a fit, then go crying to the mods. You are truly a pathetic little self aggrandizing child. All my love, DB.'

This sweet little bon mot was shared along with some charming negative rep.

Ah, so entertaining. And for free, even! What more can a girl want? Hint: the answer involves me, David Hewlett, Mitch Pileggi, a bottle of Dom, and a jar of Nutella. Whee!

Hey, in the absence of evidence, that was a viable argument.

They had no INFORMATION to make a risk assessment, so a go/no go on the basis of a rule of thumb (apologies to feminists... I do not mean the literal "rule of thumb"!) is fine.

Bauer and Sheppard are light years apart in who they are, what they are trained to do, their mission, their position, their situations. Comparison between them is like comparing apples and zinnias.
Seems like Sheppard is in a special forces situation. SG1 is a special forces situation. The SGC are special forces troops.

So, Sheppard is serving in a Special Forces capacity. Jack is also ex-special forces. Similar backgrounds. Similar need to deal with extreme tactical situations. Needs to put mission objectives over personal feelings of sympathy, etc.

So, actually, I think the Shep/Bauer metaphor is a good one... Bauer is just more EXTREME, allowing us to see the issue in its essence.

It's funny to hear you call Sheppard brutal, calculated and unfeeling since you previously argued that Sheppard killed Wraith Bob in a fit of uncontrolled anger. Different day, different position. Sort of relativistic, isn't it?
No, Sheppard is SUPPOSED to be brutal, calculated, and unfeeling. THAT's what military utilitarianism is supposed to be. That's the basis for the argument NOT to rescue the poor Wraith victim a rescue.

That was also the argument for Sheppard to NOT allow Teyla to pick up allies when the Wraith culled a world that her friends inhabited.

Sheppard has NOT always lived up to it. He isn't as extreme as Bauer. He relented and DID allow Teyla to rescue her allies from the culling. He's emotional and not as utilitarian as he might have been.

Same way he was emotional when he wasted Bob. At least they are writing him consistently.

Hey, I'm responding to your posts as posted, and not borrowing. The thread responses are without malice.

And the rep comment wasn't malice either... it was contempt.

More double standards... you send me hate PM's, leave nastygrams with your feedback, and expect not to get called on it? Good grief. You really DO feel you have some sort of privelege, don't ya?

Nutella makes me naseous. Yet another point where we disagree.

The bottle of Dom, though, is a good idea, though I personally only stock a two bottles of Moet & Chandon White Star and a bottle of Hennesy to cover situations that won't be covered by a bottle of Single Malt and some Lox.

Get back to the question at hand, and stop with the whinining before you get another thread closed.

Come on, David's already asked for you to reign in the personal animosity. There's been enough animosity since then for me to close this thread right now. I'm not going to because there is still a lot of intelligent reasoned debate going on, but please try just a bit harder.

(I'll be back in here at some stage tonight or tomorrow morning. Rep points for everyone who makes on-topic contributions WITHOUT baiting other posters or rising to bait others have set for them )

            There was nothing unclear.

Your hate is making me feel absolutely sick, Darth Buddha. It's funny, but after awhile, it's just toxic. You screwed with the wrong girl. You made a lot of reckless and malicious statements, you've shamed yourself, and now you have to live with it. Your problems aren't mine. From now on you're dead to me.

THANK YOU! GLAD TO BE A CORPSE! LEAVE ME DEAD AND BURIED, BY ALL MEAN!

Does anybody ELSE have an opinion on the Teyla shouldn't be expected to think like like a tactical soldier, but rather a village warrior?

              PLEASE?

You may be right, but there's still hope IMO. The show is too new still for the roles and interactions to be fixed.

You're probably right, there will now be people who hate the character no matter what. Still, things can change.

I remember the first season of Babylon 5 and how many people screamed about the shows that weren't "part of the story arc." JMS said that they were done so that people could get to know the characters. And on reflection, it helped enormously to have that background as the series moved forward.

So call me an optimist. Or a fool. Because, heck, I didn't dislike Jonas either.
