Basically, I don't believe in sex before marriage. When people do commence sexuality, I perceive it as the ultimate expression of love, something very private and intimate. I don't like the idea of it being treated as this casual encounter as if it were just a hug. Does that clarify my position?

sex is a fun, exciting, zesty experience to be enjoyed by everyone. its necessary for procreation, and a damn fine mode of recreation. you can still be intimate with someone before you're married. whatever. this argument has been had, and lost, by many like you.

sex is part of the culture now. more than ever. and that's not bad, because instead of hiding people from it like it's the plague, if people learn and know more about it before hand, they won't be awkward, misinformed, later. no, i don't think a 5 year old should watch porn, but the average things that are included on a prime time TV show aren't going to corrupt a kid. maybe it will get them to ask questions of their parents, and parents can actually do some parenting for a change!

As this thread slips away from the topic at hand, I'd just like to point out that all of those things happened in the past, in fact with greater regularity than they do today.

During the Middle Ages it was quite common for kids as young as 12 to marry, and yes start making babies.

this is pretty sensationalist.
divorce is rampant because people are self-indulgent morons. it has nothing to do with sex. STDs aren't spreading like wildfire any more than they have in the past. And since people are educated more about them now, it's better than it was. abortion is a topic for another conversation - but why bring a life into the world if you can't support it? kids aren't having sex - unless maybe they're being sold for slaves or something. exposed to? sure. but straight sex, not as often as you'd think.
but, anyway, have fun with that awkward painful sex on your wedding night. i hope you let your kids watch Firefly, and don't shelter them like you've sheltered yourself.

I absolutely understand why you are saving sex until after marriage, and I have nothing against that, or your beliefs on modern day society. What I don't understand is how that has anything to do with sex being depicted in TV shows that are aimed at adults in the first place.
