Doctor Who star Matt Smith has revealed he struggles to find other roles that measure up to playing the Time Lord.

The 28-year-old actor has been playing the 11th Doctor for two years and insists he has no plans to step down, as he hasn't seen any other role he'd rather play.

Matt said: "It's so funny, I read other scripts and I just go, 'Not as good as Doctor Who!'

"For me, it's a privilege to play this man. These parts don't come along that often. There was never any hesitation on my part to stay for another year."

He added: "Why would I quit? I've got Steven Moffat writing scripts, but not only that - Toby Whithouse, Richard Curtis... all these great writers.

"And then of course, the part. I just love playing the Doctor. I've grown terribly fond of him. It's something I really enjoy."

The BBC sci-fi adventure show has come under criticism for being too complicated for children to follow. But Matt insists it can be interpreted by different viewers on different levels.

He said: "Ah, the critics. My response is it's like The Simpsons, which can be received on many levels. It's only as complicated as you choose to make it. One of the reasons it's doing well in America is there's great detail and many layers, and in a sci-fi culture that's what they want.

"My mum always asks me loads of questions about it, but she still enjoys it. Still, that's what's great about Doctor Who, everybody's got an opinion."

DOCTOR Who Matt Smith says he finds it weird seeing sexy snaps of co-star Karen Gillan, as he'd only give her five out of ten for looks.

The telly Time Lord also claimed the flame-haired beauty, who plays assistant Amy Pond, is "ridiculous".

Matt, 28 who returns as the Doctor on BBC1 tonight said: "Karen's a five out of ten. And you can tell her I said that. I'll tell her I said that."

He added of her lingerie shoots for magazines: "It's pretty weird seeing Karen in her underwear.

"Actually seeing she can be sexy is quite weird, frankly, because I just know her as 'Stupid Face Karen'. Men love her, don't they? But she's just so ridiculous."

But Matt insisted he would give a "ten" to model Daisy Lowe, who he has been dating since February, excluding a brief split.
