Too be honest though...the 14 days of watching sped by pretty quick too but I still remember the best parts and lines. Savour it, Aurora. Savour it. It'll be gone too quick.
And the part I put in bold. The "me" instead of "my". Very British...unless that's a common occurrence in the US too.

Well, I might have agreed with you if this were Stargate, but since Firefly only has 14 episodes, I'm definitely going to take my time on this series.sigpic
Thanks to Dunc for my pretty aurora and Muse sig. He had no part in the Twilight one

Question here: Was Firefly cancelled during the first season or was it afterwards with Joss Whedon and co. leaving Season 1 thinking they'd come back for a second season?

That's what I did. 14-days seemed to fly in real quick for me.

I did get to see Bushwhacked. I'm beginning to wonder just what happened to River. She seemed to have some sort of sixth sense or something. I noticed this at least twice. The first time when they first boarded the other ship, she seemed to sense something bad happened there. Then later after her and her brother were hiding out from the Alliance. When they returned back inside Serenity, she seemed to know that the crazy survivor of the other ship was on board.
When the Alliance boarded their ship, I was wondering how they were going to get out of this situation. Mal seemed to know a lot about how the reavers act. I'm wondering if he's had some type of confrontation with them himself.
I can't believe I've only seen three episodes and now there's only 11 left. Why on earth did they cancel this show?sigpic

I just got the DVD's about two weeks ago and it says right on the cases that a few never aired. Plus, I noticed that when they originally aired, they weren't shown in order. My DVD's list the original airdate of the episodes but they are not in airdate order on the DVD's. It's odd. I've been watching in DVD order and haven't noticed anything out of sequence. I sure hope that continues, since I've only watched the first three episodes I can't be certain.

I'm glad you're working through Firefly slowly and surely, Aurora. Those 11-days worth of episodes will soon go by.

Just watched Shindig. Really liked it.
I have a question regarding Inara. She's a companion, which to some people is a position of status. And yet, Mal degrades her profession at every turn. I'm assuming it's jealousy on his part, it's obvious these two have a thing for each other. I just found it odd that she was able to pick the people she wants to be with, and yet they still treat her as property. Maybe i'm over-analyzing the whole thing, but I'm just curious about her character.
I loved how Mal defended her honor too. I really liked seeing this side of his character.
I really thought Kaylee was adorable in this too. Loved how Mal made it up to her and escorted her to the ball, or whatever it was supposed to be.
Very cute episode.sigpic

Very cute episode.
Regarding your question about Inara - When you say "they" treat her as property whom do you mean exactly? From what I remember the guy Inara was with at the party wanted her to be with him as his constant companion rather than just a part-time companion. Mal obviously feels for her but he also has a business arrangement with her which I think he felt, from the business stand point, gave Firefly a bit of respectability and respectable business with it. I think, though, he got a bit too possessive of Inara. His personal feelings got in the way when he saw Inara's client treating her a bit too roughly.
It has been sometime since I've seen that episode so I could be wrong.

When I said "they" I meant her clients. Well, the one guy at that party in particular. He may have wanted her as his full time companion, but he still felt Inara was beneath him. At least from the way he treated her afterwards, that's the impression I got.
So by her being on Serenity, it brings respectablility, however, her actual job is not respectable. This is where I'm a bit confusedsigpic

I have always thought that it was because she was a trained and registered companion that her profession brought Serenity respectability in that it had legitimate business endeavours on board. In the 'verse, prostitution seems to have a couple of forms, one is sanctioned and 'companions' are trained in more delicate duties (like tea ceremonies of the geisha, for example) in addition to other more intimate pursuits. The other would be unregistered prostitutes who do not bring such legitimacy.
Again, my impression.
Did that make sense?
Mal has a hard time with Inara being in her profession, not necessarily with Inara or her profession when you separate the two. Yes, the series kinda hits you over the head with their 'tension'.
The guy who hired her(I can't remember his name so I'll refer to him as Mr. Schmuck) was blacklisted with the guild by Inara. Meaning that companions have enough clout and freedom to not only choose their individual customers but to organize amongst themselves professionally - like any other trade organization would today. Actually, there's parts of this whole arrangement that make sense. It's not like abolishing prostitution is going to make it go away. Sanctioning and regulating the profession might not be such a bad idea. Accountants, doctors, lawyers, hair stylists, taxi drivers, all sorts of professions require licensing.
