'Suck it up': Lawmaker wants to cut funding for schools coddling students over Trump

An Iowa lawmaker is looking to slash funding for public colleges spending money on grief counseling and other kid-glove treatment for students upset over last week’s presidential election results -- telling snowflakes everywhere: “Suck it up, buttercup.”

Since Donald Trump’s upset victory last Tuesday, colleges across the country have brought in therapy dogs, canceled exams and held “cry-ins” on campus.

But Republican state Rep. Bobby Kaufmann says he will introduce a “suck it up, buttercup” bill in January when the Iowa State Legislature resumes, in a bid to fight back against campus coddling.

The bill would hit taxpayer-funded state universities with a budget cut for double the amount they spend on such election-related activities. Kaufmann emphasized that existing therapy and mental health services are not being targeted.

Isn't Trump planning on cutting federal funding for those cities? I'm sure that will have an impact on their policies.

Yeah, let's cut funding to schools. Who needs education anyway? China's gonna take the jobs so Americans don't need all that education.

Why should there have to be any cuts? If these cities behave themselves, they won't see a cut.
If they want to defy the federal govt., there is a cost to that decision and they should be willing to accept that.

This is just a University budget cut dressed up in a way the angry old men of the "Alt-Right" like you will get excited about.

Cutting funding to schools, limiting access to education. Holding young people back, forcing them into low paying jobs so the tax payers have to pay more to support them.

In the long run this will cost you more.

Cutting a city's budget.. There's a brilliant idea! What effect do you think that will have?

People will start to leave. Starting with the rich. Businesses will collapse without the money to support them. This plan will turn your cities into ghost towns.

Only a moron would celebrate the destruction of their own country's infrastructure to spite a few people who don't have the right papers to be there.

Not so. That's what the west coast *wants* the rest of the USA to believe. That includes Oregon and Washington state, too. What are their exports to the rest of the states? Most of the state(s) is wilderness. Some of Oregon and Washington state have mineral mines, but those are mostly exhausted by now in resources. The tree logging industry has been stopped or strictly minimized, so there's no new trees to make furniture or other (large) wooden items from those states. Plus, the environmentalists are whining about harming the environment if further progress continues (strip mining, etc), which is understandable.

However, breaking away may end up being them all screwing themselves. They'll have to get their water from the ocean, instead of relying on neighboring states during those massive wildfires they seem to get every year (some caused by nature, the rest deliberately by arsonists). Otherwise, they'll end up paying out extra money to obtain their good neighbor policy of having water donated to them during such crisises.

California is also the state that reversed the dam that redirected and supplied much of the water into the Napa Valley (green valleys) region, in order to save a 3-inch fish from extinction that is really a parasitic fish.

As for the rest of the USA getting agricultural crops from California's "green" basket, whatever veggie crops are grown out there can be replicated in the midwest and east coast.
California is currently in a severe drought with little relief in sight (there are long term *emergency* regulations in place to spare what precious little water is left out there). Their veggie products are coming out with serious signs of drought distress.

Problem is that the state of California has had ample opportunities to build more desalination plants, and renegged on those for years. They freaked out when somewhere in Europe or the Middle East had a problem with marine life getting caught in the intake strainers and clogging up the system, so avoiding building more desalination facilities.

East coast news----New York is currently under a drought, but so is New Jersey. NY now wants to buy a million gallons daily of NJ's reservoir water to feed NY residents and businesses. Not sure how well that will go, especially if we end up with more people moving into those regions. Plus, NJ needs the rain and doesn't have the luxury of as many mountains as upstate NY has, where many of NY's reservoirs exist.

They could all go bye-bye, as far as some folks in the mid-west and east coast folks are concerned. Take Chicago, Ill and parts of Michigan with them, too.

Short term-wise, it will cost in the higher range -- on the immediate outlook to work around losing those regions for agriculture. Long term-wise, there could be or will be great year round benefits that eventually could feed other countries, either nearby or far away, too.

Alternative agricultural plans could include going forth thruout every remaining USA state and start building indoor veggie gardens, or convert existing empty buildings into indoor gardens. This would also keep the buggy pests and wild animals away, or at an extreme minimum; and it's easier to control the water and soil irrigation systems from severe, outdoor weather, and possibly utilize recycled watering systems especially in hydroponic gardening. Plus, the indoor gardens can be operated year-round, even in the winter months, because it is all indoors and under a *controlled environment*..

Use the examples from Epcott at Disneyworld (in Florida) for vertical farming methods. It's amazing what can be accomplished by using smaller acreage areas, plus, gain the benefits of not dealing with as many outdoor pesticides, which are needed in the greater outdoor crops. Grow the bigger foods outside in soil applicable zones, and the smaller crops indoors using hydroponics and/or vertical farming methods. I'd do it myself for my own family, but don't have the property or finances to do it yet.. Could feed the whole neighborhood too, but not under the current rules/regs of the gov't without a permit to do so.

President Obama could have given the order to have those indoor gardens built on a grand scale, but focused more on the Middle East war(s), instead of making amazing improvements here on the USA homefront.

And since iirc we have MANY farms in the midlands who don't GROW food, just so we can keep prices down/supply down (can't remember which it is), then THOSE farms can be converted to grow the crops we don't get from ca.. Well except the wine...
