Honestly, the best part is that this was published in the Daily Fail of all places.

And they were only studying UK politics, and those right-wingers are much more tolerable than the US right-wingers. Mitt Romney has nothing on David Cameron.

Dreaded bastion of liberal heretics, Murdoch-owned Wall Street Journal points out that corporate taxes for fiscal 2011 were the lowest they've been in 40 years.

Ok, so the NDAA for 2012 just fraked the troops up even more. If they are going to frak us so hard...they should at least use KY Jelly....

A new law may affect the pay you receive when you are on duty in an imminent danger pay (IDP) area. About 27 locations world-wide have been designated by the Secretary of Defense as IDP areas.

The National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012 (NDAA 2012), signed on December 31, 2011, requires we begin prorating IDP so that members are paid for only the actual days they perform duty in an IDP area. Before December 31, members received the full $225 a month even if they performed duty only one day in an IDP area. Now service members will receive $7.50 for each day they are on duty in an IDP area up to the maximum monthly rate of $225. Members who are exposed to a hostile fire or hostile mine explosion event are eligible to receive non-prorated Hostile Fire Pay (HFP) in the full monthly amount of $225. Members cannot receive both IDP and HFP in the same month.

The law required proration to begin on December 31, 2011; however, because it took time to publish implementing guidance and ready pay systems, we were not ready to begin prorating the pay on that date. DoD began to pay the prorated payments beginning February 1, 2012. If you are eligible to receive IDP, you may see the prorated amount of the pay in your February 15th pay depending on the actual number of days you spend in an IDP area.

Some members may have been overpaid between the date the NDAA was signed on December 31, 2011, and February 1, 2012, when the pay systems began proration.

The military services are working to waive or remit debts for members who may have been overpaid during this period. The intent is that you will not be liable for any overpayment during this period. Also, you do not need to request or take any action for this to take place. Your service will take care of this for you

Are "imminent danger pay" areas a new development? Or is it just the 'pay only for hours worked' part that's recent?

                  Both are.

While I was in Iraq in OIF 09-10, I got paid for hazard duty pay and combat duty pay. This is how its always been, but now if say I was fired at, I wouldnt be getting paid what I am supposed too. Just a chance of 225 for that month...which means if say something was wrong on the papers or due to some unknown reason....I would not get paid.

With this IDP, if I am delpoyed and Im on a mission for 8 hours, I get the 8 hours paid and thats it.

Even though this is on top of our normal pay due to rank and time in service. This is complete BS, we are basically telling our troops "Look we will tell you where to go and we will pay you nearly nothing for it, while you risk your life."

                    Hm.

I really don't think there's anything wrong with being paid for hours worked. But I'll qualify that with the rather large caveat that I think a $7.50 'bonus' for a day's work is insultingly low. I'm obviously not military, but if someone wants me to work in an area where I may well get shot at, they damn sure better be paying me at least double pay per day.

My father was a union Glazier for years(and a Vet). The higher up he had to work, the more danger, the higher his pay grade was for the day. Don't our troops deserve the same?

Certainly, and I agree completely. Dangerous work deserves real, worthwhile compensation. And that damn sure means a hell of a lot more than $7.50 for a day's work.

I'm just not comprehending why anyone--in any occupation--would be getting paid for a job that may or may not be being done. Right in what Rudy quoted it says
members received the full $225 a month even if they performed duty only one day in an IDP area
So why on Earth should someone who only does one day's work get paid the same bonus as someone who's there all 30 days of a month? Surely that's both fiscally irresponsible and incredibly unfair to the poor souls who spend a great deal more time in harm's way than those who only do it for a day?

Basically its about a Muslim family who killed a female member(s) of there family due to either her lifestyle or what she wore or who she dated or if she had sex, which includes rape. All just to 'restore the honor" the family lost.

Which is why they call it honor killings.
