Glad you had a great start! We started yesterday and I have such great freshmen. Of course we are on the honeymoon period, but I think they will do well. Only problem: my feet are killing me! I'm not used to standing all day long! (My planning period is at the end of the day.)

Well we are in our 3rd week of school so of course my schedule changed again today. So this is the 4th different schedule I have had this year. At least this change makes sense and does make my schedule a little better.

Our first teacher workday is Friday and I'm looking forward to the holiday weekend.

I'm working with a new media specialist this year. By new, I mean not only new to the school but new to the position. She's been an elementary school teacher up until now, and my background is in high school. Talk about a difference in perspectives. For her, it's all about color, and I think it looks like a box of crayons puked in the library. I made a deal with her to keep the one bulletin board that I started at the end of last year with its black background the same (don't groan, it looks good with red and white, our school colors) and went and got her colored paper for the other boards. I'm ignoring the ugly flowers now hanging from the ceiling. Three cheers for compromise.

I think we'll make a good team. Our temperaments are similar as are our short range goals. In the meantime, I miss the person I've worked with for the last three years.

Glad to hear it Scifithinker! We've had a new assistant principal for a couple of years and some were leary of her elementary background-that she wouldn't be tough enough. She has been a great addition to our school-a very no-nonsense person.

I have to share a story about a perspective a student I had last year told me about his chemistry teacher this year! She is called Ms. B by her students cause they don't like saying her long last name (a shortened nickname). This young man said the B stood for Business, because that's what she got down to on the first day! I about fell on the floor laughing.

I put a whole class into shock by calling a parent about a (15 year old) kid's misbehavior on the first day of school. He went to the door and barked like a dog. Like I could let that slide.

Kids. Ya gotta love 'em, right?

Yay, another Texan. Welcome to the thread LAD! I cannot imagine having the kind of patience you must to work with primary students, much less Pre-K! Whew-you must be dead on your feet at the end of the day. Hope you have a great experience for your first year.

                  Thank you!

Seems most all of you are HS teachers....God bless you! I am working with the band program here as well, so I get to work with those ages too.

I know Tsax does, but do any of you other teachers manage to sneak off to conventions?

Hi *waves* another music teacher here!

I teach primary and secondary singing and music theory, I'm assistant director for two choirs and I used to teach in an early learning centre

Almost at the end of term down here *hoorah*...although we have end of term concerts next week and I'm so nervous for the kids!

...in particular the one girl who never turns up for her lessons...

Hi Bekki! Welcome to the thread! (My teen is in choir and loves it, but she didn't get her musical talent from me!)

Nice to see another choral director here! Though, for the kids who don't come to the lessons, they have only themselves to blame. We can't help them if they don't come. Good luck with your concerts!

I am dying to go to a convention, but I am so poor! If I can get to one, it will need to be in Texas. If I ever have the money, I will be there! I'll put in for personal days if I need to!

There was one con I paid for by saving up my loose change, literally. If I got change back, it went into a big wine bottle. It took over a year, but I got there....eventually. It was worth it.
