Maybe, but in English matrix pluralises to matrices, so I always figured the same rule applies. I could be wrong (but only if Merriam Webster is wrong as well).

In English you're (probably) right, seeing as museum is pluralised to museums in English and not to musea as it would be in Latin. So I guess we're probably both right depending on the language used
