Newbie to the forum, but not SG. Hubs and I started watching in SG1 1997 after loving the premise of the movie. We've watched it a few times since on DVD and I just recently started watching it again with our 10 year old son. He has become obsessed with SG (and I don't mind watching RDA-yummy) and we watch an ep almost every night (hubs is in Afghanistan and we only get 12 English channels, so it's not like we've got a lot else to do in the evenings). Hubs and I never got into SGA and I've not watched SGU. I may have to give at least SGA another chance. In Sept and Oct, I read all the Stargate novels available on Kindle (I read fast) and I read ff. I write some too, but I've never posted any of it. Watching SF1 again makes me so sad that it ended. Season's 9 and 10 were never my favorite though because there was not enough Jack. I could happily watch S1-8 again and again. I guess I have. Yikes. I was sad when SG1 ended, but it seems sadder to me now after 5 years because nothing has come on to replace it that is half as good.
My mom flew over (we live in Europe) in Sept and we went on a cruise. Before we left and after we came back, she watched a few eps with us and fell in love (I also introduced her to Castle when she visited last year). We were on S4, but she wanted to watch from the beginning, so I let her take season 1-3 home with her (reluctantly and a promise of a painful death if something happened to them). Almost every time we talk on the phone, she mentions Stargate. I think it's funny. She's dying to get her hands on the next few seasons. We're almost at the end of S6, so I promised I'd mail 4-6 to her as soon as we're done.
Oh, one of the stops on our cruise was Egypt (awesome!) and when we were at Giza, my son looked at the pyramids and said something to the effect that if the Goa'uld used them as landing platforms, the mother ships must have been massive. He is mad about Egypt, and plans to be Indiana Jones when he grows up (one of the reasons I thought he'd like Stargate) and it was cute how after he got over his awe of actually being there, he thought of Stargate.
I don't know what we'll do when we're at the end of the DVD's. I'm afraid he'll go into a deep depression. The books are a bit over his head, so I don't know what he'll do. Probably smuggle all the DVD's to the playroom and watch them on the TV in there over and over.
Good grief that was long. I swear I'm not always so loquacious. Simple answer to the original question: watch the DVD's, read the books, and fantasize about Jack O'Neill.
