That is so true, then they don't have to think up what the 9th chevron does when they want to use it.

I think it's interesting that instead of heading straight to Andromeda, the ancients decided to stop by the dwarf, Pegasus, on the way. If they're populating all galaxies that they come across, it could very well mean that all the dwarfs orbiting the Milky Way may have already been seeded, and the Pegasus galaxy was the first one on their way to seed Andromeda.
If that is the case, then Andromeda and all the other galaxies in that region my still be devoid of sentient species, since Atlantis (or any other city-ships) never got to move on after Pegasus was populated (as far as we know).
This issue will probably end up being "a furling": The writers will keep us in the dark forever.Jarnin's Law of StarGate:

We don't know that the Ancients had other city-ships instead of Atlantis. If they did, they might have already seeded Andromeda. While Atlantis was seeding Pegasus.Originally posted by Rainbow Sun FrancksLive within the moment. There is only now, ENJOY.

Got to agree on that one, I dont think we'll ever find out because TPTB dont even know.
But if I had to think of what it does I'd go with either the travel between universes or the security feature. Maybe it takes you to highsecurity Ancient planets where there is loads of data and information.
Or it could take you to a planet where all of the Ancients "failed experiments" are

Originally posted by CeeKay SheppardWell, I had a thought a while back. If the seventh chevron takes you between stars, and the eighth between galaxies, maybe the ninth takes you between universes. I wrote a fanfic series about that – link's in my sig, if you're interested. STOP MAKING THESE THREADS
Furling threads and Ninth chevron threads are the scourge of this forum. We dont know anything and its allmost certain that we wont see it used. Use the search option, and see if any come up before you just decide to make a thread!
As for the ninth chevron, it takes me to my happy placeEquality is not a concept. It's not something we should be striving for. It's a necessity. Equality is like gravity. We need it to stand on this earth as men and women. And the misogyny that is in every culture is not a true part of the human condition. It is life out of balance, and that imbalance is sucking something out of the soul of every man and woman who is confronted with it.

We're here debating what the ninth chevron does, but take a minute to think about all those on less developed planets who are still in wonder about what the 8th chevron does. Consider ourselves lucky we know that much and put these threads to death. By Snoo Snoo.* Always remember - You are unique, just like everyone else. *

Okay... my Theory is that the Pegasus galaxy is not that little dwarf galaxy near out local group. Why? Because we did not need that much power to gate to Othalla, when compared to gating to Pegasus. So my theory is that Pegasus is actually a large spiral galaxy, not as big as the Milky Way, but more in line to the Pinwheel's size. However, this Pegasus galaxy is from another cluster of galaxies, and the same applies to Othalla, as well as the Ori galaxy.
There's two Virgo Clusters, so why can't they rename M65 or whatever galaxy that is in another group as "Pegasus".

I don't know if this theory has every been suggested before, probably, given the number of 9th Chevron threads out there, but what if there is no 9th chevron. I'm not absolutly sure about this, because they rarely show the entire gate for the entire duratioin of the dialing sequence. Accually I don't think they've ever shown it uncut. But I always assumed that the chevron on the top, the one with no bottom, was the locking mechanism. Whenever the gate is dailing, the desired symbol comes into place under the top chevron, it locks, lights up and at the same time, the first chevron to the right lights up. Then the second comes into place under the top one, and the second to the right lights up. And so on. Now the part that is in question is when the seventh/eighth chevron comes into place. When it locks, does it lock the chevron to the left for the seventh/eighth or is it itself the seventh/eighth. I not sure. But if the chevron on the left is the seventh/eighth, then that means there are only eight chevron total used to determine a gates point in space. Again, I haven't checked all the episode to be sure, but I thought I might provide a new light, and possible a solution, for the arguement.O'Neill: They didn't go for it.
Carter: They didn't approve the mission?
O'Neill: Oh, no they did that. Once they knew the stakes and the whole fate of the universe stuff. Both the President and Hammond realized we had no choice. He sends good luck, godspeed, all those things he says when he thinks we're gonna die.
Carter: So what didn't they go for?
O'Neill: The name I suggested.
Carter: For the ship?
O'Neill: Yeah.
Carter: Yeah. Sir, we can't call it the 'Enterprise'.
O'Neill: Why Not?!

The extra chevrons are under the walkway, I'm pretty sure there's a good front shot of the gate in 'Momento'.Originally posted by Rainbow Sun FrancksLive within the moment. There is only now, ENJOY.
