I want 302s dogfighting Death Gliders/Darts/what-have-you through the skyline of a major city on Earth while some of the big ships go at it just at cloud level.
A combinatuion of the anti-ship fighting from Wing-commander and the fighter battle from SW RotJ, only with contemporary style(maybe 100/200yrs from now) above an Earth colony. heheh. Awesome!
302 engaging darts/gliders/other tech, while dodging AAA. several 304's coming over the horizon between the clouds and the ground stop at railgun LoS range and beam down the marines for a ground attack. folow the marines for CAS as they advance into the facility. marines come out with rescues POW's and lots of captured tech, the 304's beam them aboard and hyper out in atmo causing a Halo type blastwave

Try this fic. It's not all USMC, but there is progressively more and more gorund combat being fought, with ship and air suupport. You may like this thread.
how about a red giant
no planets nearby but a massive space station that we have troops onboard. the capitol ships engage in nearby space but are effectively "pinned" in position by the need to defend the station from attack and boarding craft untill the station can be brought online and juin the fight
and yes i like mixing it up with capitol ships and ground troops
oh that gives me another idea:
capitol ships fighting (who cares where) with marines and the bad-guy-of-the-week going at it on the hull of our ship.
