I disagree. Those special effects were given for a reason.

Anubis ship was very powerful because of its weapon. I know that.

Aurora having as powerful shields as the Odyssey, especially with the ZPM is hard to imagine. With that kind of shields the Ancients should have easily wiped out the Wraith.

The Ancients must have some weakness not just being smaller in number in order for the Wraith to win. If the Ancients had the best ships ever made, no way would they lose.

Ancient drone weapons are as good as anything out there, and if they had the best shields. Think about that, which implies that 1 Ancient ship could easily defeat SEVERAL FLEETS of Wraith HIVES. Do you really think any Ancient ship could take on several dozen Hives and still lose the war?

Those special effects are there for a reason. Color of the shields indicate shield strength of the shields. Already very powerful shields can be made more powerful by adding extra power (eg ZPM).

There is evidence for both arguments. On one hand the colors seem to suggest in some instances strength. But, the Odysseys shields appear to be stronger than an ori toilet ship now and there is no color change. I believe that the color has less to do about shield strength and more to do with the process of projecting the shields and how advanced that may be.

We dont know how much they were outnumbered by. It could be 10,100,1000 wraith hives for each Aurora/other warship. I also agree something else contributed to the Ancients losing the war.

Get real. Aurora shields as powerful as the Odyssey? Did anybody see the pathetic performance of the Orion. And there was no indication that Orion's shields were anything but at 100%.

          Watch season 4.

Come now, no way Wraith have millions of Hive, they would need 10's TRILLIONS OF HUMANS to feed on. Wraith needs to feed every 3 months.

Wraith at most had probably 500-1000 Hives at their peak. Ancients probably had 100-200 battleships.

There might have been trillions of humans before the wraith came and ate them all. There is 6 billion on one planet there has to be trillions in total for 1000 planets.

Melia admitted that the Ancients were caught off guard, and were over confident, they knew the wraith were inferior to them. Its reasonably safe to assume the Wraith attacked ship yards and ZPM and weapon production facilities in the initial attack. Without supplies the ancients had to defend the countless human inhabited planets with a seemingly small number of war ships. With forces spreaded thin single Aurora class vessels probably took on several Hives at once and lost. Shield strength doesn't seem linear its parabolic, and when multiple hits are taken simultaneously the shield is depleted exponentially. If your ship is taking maybe several dozen shots per second for several minutes I'm damn sure you won't last that long. And in that great of numbers drones would take a while to hit every ship, and secondary energy canons probably would do no decisive damage. When your hit that far down, it's not easy to recover from the shock quickly and rebuild everything you lost fast enough to reinforce all your forces within the time frame they needed new ships in. Personnel is another variable to consider, the Ancients were a peaceful race that could defend its self, they probably didn't have many well trained officers.

There is no doubt that the Orion's shields were impressive in inferno. They were taking from a limited amount of energy, sharing it with inertial dampeners set to full stregnth, energy set aside for the hyper drive, and they could still have enough energy to withstand smashing themselves into who knows how much solid ground covered in magma, the temperature of being engulfed in magma and the extreme pressure of the super volcano's eruption from point blank. If our 304 was in the same situation i highly doubt they would be able to pull it off. Shield color may fit in some cases, but with a few cases that stick out it pretty much shows the color is to aesthetically please us.
