Dictionary.com kindly provided this definition: "A way of escaping a difficulty, especially an omission or ambiguity in the wording of a contract or law that provides a means of evading compliance."

Are wormholes loopholes in the Laws of Physics?

I always shudder when people claim that science has reached its apex in understanding. Puh-lease...!
When you hand around here for a good while, you tend to pick that up.

So warp drives sounds more real than hyperdrive?

Yes, and the definition in no way contradicts what I said. It is a way of escaping a difficulty, but not without actually breaking the laws. Just slightly tweaking their intended use is all. Fire was never meant to drive a combustion engine, but it does. It's all about how you apply the forces of nature, not how the forces of nature usually work. Its power can be manipulated to do what otherwise could not be done. That is the whole point of a loophole. Finding your way around a difficult problem, but not without actually breaking the rules themselves.

As to being around... lol..! I've been around longer than you, so I know very well about that. I've been hanging around the Science and Tech sub-forum around here for quite a while.

Actually Warp Drive and Hyperdrive are both 2 different types of Stardrives, that are each based on very real and different theories. They both touch on similiar theories of science but that is basically because they are both trying to achieve the same thing by different means.

It has nothing to do with 'sounding' cool, or real. Though for fans of sci-fi, it does tend to sound rather cool.

No, that's technology and ingenuity, not loopholes.

LOL..! What the hell do you think technology is? It is finding a way around the so-called 'natural' order of things, without actually breaking the rules of physics. Man was not 'naturally' meant to fly, yet we do. Man was not 'naturally' meant to travel at speeds over 40 miles per hour, yet we can fly several thousands of miles per hour.

A loophole isn't always a bad thing. It just gives you a means to do something you might not otherwise have been able to do. My idea for a hyperdrive for instance... Gravity doesn't 'naturally' become focused onto a single point in space; it 'naturally' encompasses a wide area. Yet if we had the ability to focus it (un-natural manipulation of a force of nature), we might be able to pierce the fabric of space-time itself.

Loopholes, are the products of ingenuity, as is Technology. They are usually complicated, because they have to be to work right. Because in there 'natural' states they are much more simple.

I hope they approve the budget and that it works. That would be so cool. We could start building spaceships and stuff like the daedlus. Were developing DARPA so we'll actually be ahead of the stargate universe. Do we have shield technology in real life? I know im goin all over the place here but it would be sooooo coool!

Hmm... creating something like shields? Well, it is probably based on some theroy... Amanda Tapping said that all that she could mention in true science of Stargate that everything in the stargate universe, hyperdrive, zat's and so on and on are all based on theories. Although, for some reason I think making some shields on ships (buildings or what ever) is even harder then hyperdrive, warp-drive or some other cool stuff that I want earth to have more then anything.

Hallowed are the fans of Stargate!

The closed thing that scientists in the real world currently have to force fields is electromagnetic shielding.

In theory you could get shields with cold plasma.

How can they say that cold plasma can shield objects from some energy weapons? We don't even have energy weapons.

The us government has black programs that contain technology that is usually 50 to 75 years ahead of where we are now. I cant remember the name but theres some aircraft that can go like mach 50 and thats not even its upper limit.

Aurora? That secret black project that everyone seems to know about?

Anyhow, I always try to think of what the world had around 80 years ago. No harnessing nuclear power, just starting to really get into using electricity, then came computers, space flight, television, GPS, cell phones, bullet trains, laser guided weapons, lasers, etc. etc. and now the Russians want to build a base on the moon to mine Helium-3 for nuke fusion. Science proceeds so fast that who knows what we'll discover next. Who could imagine leveling a city with one bomb 80 years ago? Yet we can do it, or flying faster than sound. It's incredible to think how far we've achieved and yet how much more there is that we can do.
