Video: Sci Fi's 'Stargate Atlantis' cast, plus Mallozzi-Mullie files

By April MacIntyre Jul 2, 2007, 17:24 GMT

The Vancouver Sci Fi Digital Press tour took us to the Stargate, the infamous ring of intergalactic travel as we got to meet the cast and writers for the show.

    **snippage&&

Season Four of Stargate: Atlantis is ramping up the drama by introducing a powerful new advanced race, welcoming new cast members and trying not to get bogged down by irate fans who want their old cast members back.

      excerpt:

Once a spin-off of a spin-off, Stargate Atlantis is now top dog of all the Stargate properties.

Sci-fi television shows are a hotbed of spin-offs, and one of the strongest spin-offs still going today is Stargate Atlantis. The show splintered from Stargate SG-1, which packed up its gear for good with a series finale earlier this year. Atlantis, which debuted in 2004, is continuing on even though its source material is done. Its set, called the Bridge Studio, served as the second stop of the tour.

SGA - MediaBlvd Magazine: SciFi Channel Digital Press Tour:

        From MediaBlvd Magazine:

        http://www.mediablvd.com/magazine/Ma...224327327.html

Video from SCI FI's Digital Press Tour Panels

The SCI FI Channel held the first ever Digital Press Tour this past week, with 26 journalists representing 21 web sites in attendance. The panels consisted of set visits and panels with the celebrities, and the panels were definitely the highlight of the event. The sessions are presented in their entirety below. The movies are in .FLA format, the same format used by YouTube.com, but are served from the MediaBlvd servers, so are not limited to 10 minutes.

        Stargate Atlantis:

Now that SG1 had ended it's run, Stargate Atlantis dominates the landscape at SCI FI. Questions to the panel centered heavilly on what elements of SG1 would be brought over, if any.

http://www.ugo.com/ugo/html/article/...91&sectionId=2 has just finished up a nice big report on Eureka, mentioning in that article that they were headed to the SGA next, so hopefully tomorrow (or next week) we'll get the lowdown on the SGA set.

The Sci Fi Digital Press Tour report, final thoughts

Posted Jul 6th 2007 12:03PM by Keith McDuffee

Sick of me yet? Well don't worry, this the last post I've got for you about my trip ... probably. I felt it was right of me to conclude everything with some overall thoughts on the experience of visiting these sets, a quick rundown on what I've already posted (don't worry, it's just the links) and a consolidation of the images, including some new ones.

So, to start of, here's a quick rundown of what was already posted ...

Although everybody else basically beat SciFi to the punch, here's their article from the press tour:

                http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/index...ory=0&id=42390

                Juily 11th
                Producers: Give Atlantis A Chance

The executive producers of SCI FI Channel's original series Stargate Atlantis told reporters that the end of sister show Stargate SG-1 has allowed them to devote more resources and energy to the upcoming fourth season, but added that the renewed focus behind the scenes won't change the series in drastic ways.

"As far as changes behind the camera goes, there really haven't been any, really," executive producer Paul Mullie said in a press conference on the set in Vancouver, Canada. "I mean, except for me and [executive producer Joe Mallozzi] taking over. But it's not like we're coming in from outside. We've been working on SG-1 since season four, and we've been working on Atlantis from the beginning. All of our directors and all the other writers are the same. It's the same crew. It's very much, I think, a continuation. We didn't set out to change the show. We figured season four would just be, hopefully, ... an evolution, a continuation of what had already been set up. I don't think the fans will notice any big differences there. The big differences are the characters, the two new characters, and when they see them, I think they'll love them."

Some of the fans have been upset at the cast changes that have been announced, including (spoilers ahead!) the addition of SG-1 star Amanda Tapping as Col. Samantha Carter and the demotion of Torri Higginson, whose Dr. Elizabeth Weir ended up in a coma at the end of the third-season finale.

                FULL ARTICLE AT LINK ABOVE

Actually, she was unconscious but nobody said coma, but it would stand to reason the writers would fall back on the all head trauma-coma thing

Well, if it gives SGA some publicity, I'm all for it. It's not like they're doing much else for the show right now....

                      From the Marketing Road Blog:

                      Jul 12, 2007

Sci Fi Channel boldly goes where no network has gone before: the Digital Press Tour

Star Trek, x5. Battlestar Galactica, x2. Babylon 5. Farscape. Firefly. Dr. Who, x10 (Doctors that is). V. Red Dwarf. Blake's 7. Lexx. Andromeda. Stargate SG1. Stargate Atlantis. Buffy. Angel. Lost.

No TV fan is more loyal, more devoted than the science fiction/fantasy fan. So loyal in fact that many of them start Web sites and blogs devoted to covering their favorite shows and favorite genre. And not just fan sites and spoiler sites. News sites that rival the mainstream media for their depth and breadth of coverage.

But quite often, these sites find it difficult to get access to the TV shows and stars they cover.

Until the Sci Fi Channel boldly went where no network has gone before and invited the digital press to Vancouver, where many of the network's shows are filmed, for a special press tour.

I'm one of the sci fi fans who regularly reads these online sites for the latest news, and spoilers, from my favorite shows. I've also been covering the topic of blogger relations quite heavily here on the Roadmap so this story is kind of a dream come true. Or at least a two-fer.

                      **major snippage**

Bottom line: I was impressed by Sci Fi's digital press tour and hope the network continues, as it has promised, to reach out to the online media. Hhmm, maybe I should start a science fiction blog in time for the Battlestar premiere in January 2008.....

well it's better than one site that actually had the audacity to say if you wanted to see the pictures and report, you had to make a donation ($) to the site. I mean, did Skiffy even screen the 'reporters'??

                              by Eric Goldman

July 18, 2007 - Recently, IGN was part of a very special opportunity given to a group of online press to visit the set of SCI FI Channel's Stargate Atlantis. Now in production for Season 4, the series is going into its first year on its own, as the series that begat it, Stargate SG-1, has concluded.

                              **snippage**

We'll be presenting the Q&A with the cast in two portions. In this first part, among other topics, the Atlantis group talks about what it's like having Amanda Tapping make the leap from SG-1 to their show for the coming season; we learn how the show had to deal with working Luttrell's current pregnancy into the production of Season 4; Mallozzi and Mullie talk about their new positions as showrunners on Atlantis and what changes that may or may not cause for the series; and the producers talk about how much SG1 mythology might make its way onto Atlantis.
