              Mary-Louise Parker
leads a uniformly strong cast in this overwhelmingly bleak TV drama that's been sitting on the network's shelf since 2005. Parker stars as Ellen Fritz, a financially strapped mom who is forced, along with her unemployed husband, Jake, and their two kids, to move in with Jake's dysfunctional parents (Tom Skerritt, Betty Buckley). But Jake's monster of a dad constantly belittles everyone around him and makes it known that he would have preferred Jake had died instead of his beloved son Mitch, who recently perished in a truck accident. The acrid atmosphere eats away at all involved, including viewers, and leads Ellen to uncover a long-held secret that is at the heart of the family's problems. But by then most viewers likely won't care, and the film's abrupt ending will leave those who do unfulfilled. Some things are better left on the shelf. — Tim Holland

                8 pm/ET HALLMARK CHANNEL New

The cable channel kicks off its action-packed Memorial Day weekend with a classically drawn airline thriller. Dean Cain stars as Jack Bender, a former FBI agent whose plane is hijacked by a radical separatist (Anthony Michael Hall) and his cronies. Naturally, Jack does his best to foil the hijackers' plans and save the day. Meanwhile, the FAA and FBI contemplate the best way to handle the situation, which becomes more complicated with every passing second. Just like the passengers on the ill-fated flight, viewers should buckle up for an unexpected and thrilling ride. — Brie Hearn

The Kids Need to Read Foundation was established in August 2007 by The Softwire series author PJ Haarsma and actor Nathan Fillion. Kids Need to Read raises money to buy books through bi-weekly auctions on eBay, which have proven very popular among fans of Firefly/Serenity and science fiction, as well as literacy advocates. A CafePress store selling literacy-themed merchandise and “Kindness is a Strength” items helps to raise additional funds for Kids Need to Read. Various fundraising events lend additional support to the organization.
