SG1 - Apex Book Company - Michael Shanks Interview:
At Apex Book Company:
(Please follow the link for the complete interview.)
Interview with Michael Shanks–co-star of Stargate: SG-1
by Sara M. Harvey
Michael Shanks is a Canadian actor best known for his role as Dr. Daniel Jackson in the Stargate universe. He’s known universally as a nice guy, an ice hockey fan, and the lucky guy who married fanboy favorite Lexa Doig.
Of late, Michael has been in a number of high profile shows, including recurring guest roles in the Keifer Sutherland show 24 and the USA Network’s spy-thriller Burn Notice. His latest work includes co-starring in the Hallmark movie Living Out Loud (along with Gail O’Grady and airing May 8th at 9 p.m. and May 17th at 9 p.m. on the Hallmark Channel) and filming a television pilot titled The Eastmans (co-starring Donald Sutherland, Jacqueline Bisset, and Saffron Burrows).
Sara M. Harvey (author of The Convent of the Pure) spoke to Michael via telephone in late-April.
A brief excerpt:
SH: Wrapping up, where can we find you next on the big screen or television, aside from Living Out Loud? What’s your next big project?
MS: I finished a movie in November called Desperate Escape with Elisabeth Röhm. I just finished a pilot with Warner Brothers called The Eastmans with Donald Sutherland, Jacqueline Bisset, and Saffron Burrows that is about a family of doctors named “Eastman.” Donald and Jacqueline have five kids, and I play the best friend of one of the sons and I’m having an affair with Jacqueline Bisset.

SG1/SGA/SGU/Sanctuary - Auburn Journal: Peter DeLuise:
At the Auburn Journal (Aurburn, CA):
(Please follow the link for the complete column. Photo of Peter DeLuise from the movie, 'Rescue Me,' at the site.)
Media Life:Comic’s death brings back Auburn movie memories
Meadow Vistan rocks and rolls in Utah; blues groundbreaker Alice Stuart at Jack's
By Gus Thomson, Journal Staff Writer
The death of actor-comedian Dom DeLuise this past week brings to mind the making of a low-budget movie in and around Auburn in 1991 that included his son, Peter DeLuise in the cast.
The younger DeLuise was just coming off four years acting opposite Johnny Depp in the crime drama “21 Jump Street” and landed a part as the slow-on-the-uptake heavy in a movie called “Rescue Me.”
Filming in Auburn over three days included shoots along picturesque Orange Street, near Placer High School, in Downtown Auburn’s Bank of California and along Foresthill Road.
Because of some behind-the-scenes studio changes, “Rescue Me” languished on a Cannon Pictures shelf for two years before its theatrical release. So the photo of DeLuise, shot by the Journal during a lunch break on the side of Foresthill Road, was perhaps more factual than the photographer or actor imagined at the time.
DeLuise, now 42, has since carved out a career on the other side of the camera that has included directing 57 episodes of Sci-Fi Channel’s “Stargate SG-1” between 1999 and 2007.
“Rescue Me,” also known as “Streethunter,” vanished quickly from theaters and is probably more known today as the movie with the same name as the Denis Leary firefighter TV series. The film, also starring Michael Dudikoff, Stephen Dorff and Dee Wallace-Stone, never made it onto an Auburn movie screen.

SGU - Spout: Movie of the Week Blog: Bats:
At Spout:
(Please follow the link for the complete review.)
The_MOW Blog
Fairly creepy
Bats (1999)
An unnamed Texas town has a big problem. It is under the threat of a very large pack of genetically altered bats, specifically the breed known as flying foxes.
A bat expert (Dina Meyer), her assistant (Leon) and the town's opera-loving sheriff (Lou Diamond Phillips) join forces to try to destroy the bats before it's too late.
... The acting is fairly good in the movie. Meyers and Phillips are easily the best of the cast. The supporting cast of characters is not written strongly. In fact some of the characters are just there to help advance the plot, and do not much else....

Check your local listings in the weeks ahead, usually this movie is available on TV somewhere (although I can't find a listing for it in the next two weeks).

THE LOST TREASURE OF THE GRAND CANYON -- DVD review by porfle
A Sci-Fi Channel original movie is like a box of chocolates--you never know what you're gonna get, or just how nutty it's gonna be. THE LOST TREASURE OF THE GRAND CANYON (2008) is not only nutty as hell, but it's so hard to swallow that Forrest Gump would've choked on it.
... Shannen Doherty is getting a bit long-in-the-tooth to be playing this sort of ingenue role, especially when we (along with the male leads) are supposed to be titillated by the sight of her sponging off in a creek. "Stargate SG-1" alumnus Michael Shanks fares a bit better as Shannen's secret admirer Jacob Thain, a hands-off archeologist who'd rather stay in his tent than pick up a shovel but who turns out to be quite courageous and resourceful when the chips are down. Another familiar face, JR Bourne, does well as the cowardly Langford. Heather Doerksen ("Stargate: Atlantis", THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL) plays one of those irritating frontier feminists whose character gets sillier as the movie goes on, along with the script.
... I try not to judge low-budget made-for-TV flicks too harshly, especially if they have that elusive "so bad it's good" quality that can make a lesser effort fun to watch. However, THE LOST TREASURE OF THE GRAND CANYON is, for me, simply boring and a chore to endure. The cast is pretty game, but the filmmakers just don't seem to be trying any harder than they have to.

Paul McGillion
<http://www.straight.com/article-219811/movie-releases-new-moons-tinsel-korey-stargates-paul-mcgillion>
Scottish Canadian actor Paul McGillion, best known for his role as Dr. Carson Beckett on the sci-fi series Stargate: Atlantis, has a cameo in the new Star Trek film. When the character was killed off, an intense campaign to save the character was launched, which even arranged a public performance of the bagpipes by the Highland Celts of Canada outside Bridge Studios.
McGillion was considered for the role of Scotty, which Beckett was perceived as a tribute to, in the new Star Trek movie, but lost the role to Simon Pegg. However, he was offered a role as a Starfleet Academy officer.
The film also stars Vancouver-raised actor Bruce Greenwood.

1. NEW ACTOR GUEST ANNOUNCEMENT - CLAUDIA BLACK ("STARGATE: SG-1",
"FARSCAPE")
Polaris 23 is pleased to announce that Claudia Black has accepted our
invitation to be one of our Actor Guests this year.
Born in Sydney, Australia, Claudia is best known for her portrayal of
Aeryn Sun in the science fiction television series "Farscape", and Vala
Mal Doran on "Stargate SG-1". "As an accomplished stage actress, Claudia
has completed many different roles with various stage companies, as well
as with the Belvoir Street Theatre, a renowned Australian acting troupe.
In 1990, Claudia's turn as Portia in Shakespeare's "The Merchant of
Venice" earned her a nomination in the Globe Shakespeare Competition.
The bulk of her early onscreen career took place in Australian television
productions. Early appearances include bit parts in "G.P." (1993), "Police
Rescue" (1993) and the miniseries "Seven Deadly Sins" (1993). In 1997,
Claudia appeared as Cassandra in "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys" and
reprised this role on another episode the following year. She has also
appeared in such movies as "Queen of the Damned", "Pitch Black", and
"Naked in London". In addition to acting, Claudia is also an accomplished
singer, having gotten her start in plays and musical theater. She can
currently be heard on Paul Goddard's album, "2am Flight".
Claudia Black will be appearing at Polaris 23 on Friday and Saturday ONLY.
She will attending the Blastoff Party, signing autographs, appearing
onstage, and participating in our photo sessions.

times are subject to change.

2. SPECIAL PERFORMANCE THIS YEAR: REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA
Polaris 23 is pleased to present a shadow cast performance of the film
"Repo! The Genetic Opera", Friday evening following Opening Ceremonies!
"Repo! The Genetic Opera" was the collaborative creation of artist
Terrance Zdunich, musician Darren Smith and director Darren Lynn Bousman
("Saw II-V"). Along with a twisted premise, the film also features a very
ecclectic cast, from actors like Anthony Stewart Head ("Buffy The Vampire
Slayer"), Paul Sorvino ("Romeo and Juliet"), Bill Moseley ("Devil's
Rejects") and Alexa Vega ("Spy Kids"), to musicians like Ogre and Sarah
Brightman, and even famous heiress Paris Hilton.
"The Shadow Cats" is Toronto's shadow cast, as well as the first ever
shadow cast in the world to perform for "Repo! The Genetic Opera". The
success of their shows sprouted a wave of shadow casting in the Repo! fan
community. Currently, there are over 20 different Repo! shadow cast
troupes all across North America, and even in Europe.
