Movie Review: 'THE PERFECT SLEEP'

An ode to the good old days of moody filmmaking and violence

... Expect some memorable performances from the cast. Padoe bravely takes on the role as The Narrator, getting brutalized more times than I can count. Thank goodness for stunt doubles, eh? Sanchez is heartbreaking. Porphyria wants nothing but a normal life, but she knows what the cost of such a wish will be. Watching her struggle to have the best of both worlds earns her a place in the viewer’s heart. My personal favorite, however, was the brief but profoundly disturbing appearance of Tony Amendola. His portrayal of the psychotic Dr. Sebastian is both engaging and yet extremely disturbing. Watching him calmly talk his victims into death still makes me shudder.

... THE PERFECT SLEEP is a world that doesn’t exist, a nice escape from the run of the mill comic book action movies that have been plaguing our theaters in recent years. The reward is a visual landscape that has you wondering why noir remains a thing of the past. Is style, well, out of style? Not in this film. It’s Style with a capital S.

Teenage Actor Hails Co-Star For Helping Him Survive First Screen Romp Rising Star Anthony Martin On First Tv Sex Scene

WHEN teenage soap star Anthony Martin found out Robert Carlyle was playing his dad in a new TV drama he did not bat an eyelid.

But when the former River City actor discovered he had to lose his virginity on camera, he went weak at the knees.

Anthony, 17 - who played Jamie Hunter in the Shieldinch drama - stars as a teenager with cancer who steals his wayward dad's motorbike and runs away with girlfriend Ziggy in bittersweet romance Zig Zag Love.

And not even being chased along a Highland road by former Bond villain Robert, 47, compared to getting his kit off for the cameras.

Anthony said: "When I got the part nobody mentioned Robert Carlyle.

It wasn't until much, much later. But I didn't actually find it intimidating.

I just thought 'oh yes' because I was so pleased.

"I've always admired him, he's unbelievable in Trainspotting.

"So I was delighted to find out he was playing my character's dad and even more pleased to find out he was a really nice guy in real life.

... "I feel very comfortable on set so I didn't try to up my game because I was working with Robert Carlyle.

"I did it the way I would opposite anyone. It didn't affect me that he was there, it just helped because he's so good.

"It was great to work with him but I didn't ask for advice or tips.
