SGA - SciFi Wire: Picardo Voices Quantum Quest:

    From SciFi Wire:

(Please follow the link for the complete article.)

    Picardo Voices Quantum Quest

Robert Picardo told SCI FI Wire that he has not yet seen the completed
version of the animated feature Quantum Quest: A Cassini Space
Odyssey, but that he is honored to be a lead voice in the film along
with John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson and Sarah Michelle Gellar.

"I had not yet seen the full animation," said Picardo, who voices the
character of Milton in the animated SF adventure. "I've seen drawings
and stuff, and I have recorded my part, and I'm proud to be in
something that's not only a great, I think, educational tool for kids
but ... stands alone as an entertainment as well and with an A-list of
voice talents like Samuel Jackson and, gosh, I can't even remember."

Carla, who appears in the first two episodes of Season 2 and will be back several times later in the season, forces Westen to work for her by threatening his family. And in four episodes that air later this summer, she gets him to collaborate with another, very bitter ex-spy, Victor (Michael Shanks from “Stargate SG-1”).

SGA - Torri Higginson - Village Soup Belfast: Tek-War:

            From Village Soup Belfast (ME):

(Please follow the link for the complete article.)

‘Stop-loss’ shows toll of Iraq war on young soldiers

            By Tom Von Malder

            TekWar: The Complete Series

(Image, 3 DVDs, 13 hours 48 min.). The series is based on William Shatner’s (“Star Trek,” “Boston Legal”) series of futuristic “Tek” books, and Shatner serves as an executive producer, director of the pilot and in the recurring role of Bascom. The series is set in the year 2045, when an addictive, computer-based, reality drug called Tek has divided society into pro and con camps. Greg Evigan (“Melrose Place”) plays ex-cop Jake Cardigan, recruited by a mysterious benefactor to stop the drug’s advance. His girlfriend Beth (Torri Higginson, late of “Stargate: Atlantis) is recruited by the owner of IVN (the TV shopping channel Interactive Value Network) to devise a way to make Tek non-addictive. Eugene Clark plays Cardigan’s assistant, who is all abuzz about his new 80,000 scents detector in the pilot episode. The show’s budget is miniscule, but it still proves entertaining. Shatner, in his recently-released autobiography “Up Till Now” -- a very entertaining book that I just finished reading, although the style often interrupts the narrative flow like this to go on a tangent, related or not -- says “Tek” the book evolved while a Teamsters Union strike shut down production of “Star Trek V,” and he based the plot on “T.J. Hooker” (another TV series Shatner starred in) meets “The Fugitive” in the “Star Trek” future. (Of course, you have noticed that “Tek” is as close to “Trek” as legally permitted.) Shatner says the budget was so small that they filmed wherever they could, for free. The show lasted for the 18 episodes presented here.

            Rating: series 3 stars

            Rating guide: 5 stars = classic; 4 stars = excellent; 3 stars = good; 2 stars = fair; dog = skip it.)

(Please follow the link for the complete article.)

                          At Shore Leave, a sci-fi mind-meld

Everything out of this world will be in Hunt Valley this weekend at the annual convention

By Jennifer Choi | Sun reporter

                          July 10, 2008

Michael Schilling is tired of the bum rap sci-fi convention-goers have gotten from "Mundanes," those who think the fandom is only comprised of one type of human.

"On TV, they don't show the eloquent doctors or lawyers who attend these conventions," said Schilling, a member of the Star Trek Association of Towson. "They only show the pointy-eared guy."

Marilyn Mann, programming coordinator for Shore Leave, a local, fan-run science-fiction convention set for this weekend, said such events are similar to others that draw like-minded, if disparate, crowds: "On some levels, it's the same reason someone goes to a football game. It's fun to share something that you're interested in with other people that are excited by the same thing."

Shore Leave 30, which celebrates the convention's 30th anniversary, runs tomorrow through Sunday at the Marriott Hunt Valley Inn. Supporters say, as in past years, this year's event will be an educational, family-friendly and entertaining event that attracts people from all walks of life.

                          **snippage**

[George] Takei and fellow Heroes star McDowell share the celebrity roster with several other sci-fi thespians. The lineup includes veteran stage, film and TV actor William Morgan Sheppard, who has appeared in numerous Star Trek series; his son Mark Sheppard of Battlestar Galactica and Bionic Woman; Jewel Staite, David Hewlett and his sister Kate Hewlett, all of Stargate: Atlantis.

Kate Hewlett believes that sci-fi draws so many people in because it resonates with them on numerous levels.

"It's a great way to escape. But it's not just entertaining," she said. "It can also be political, relevant and moving."

Shore Leave 30 runs tomorrow through Sunday. Hours are noon tomorrow-1 a.m. Saturday, 10 a.m. Saturday-3 a.m. Sunday and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Three-day admission is $75. One-day admission is $20 for tomorrow, $50 for Saturday and $40 for Sunday; $15 for children 5-12; free for children younger than 5. The hotel is at 245 Shawan Road, Hunt Valley. First Max Payne Movie Trailer Released

by Nick Breckon Jul 10, 2008 4:15am CST

The first teaser for the Mark Wahlberg-starring Max Payne movie was released early this morning. The film is currently slated to debut on October 17.

John Moore (Behind Enemy Lines, Flight of the Phoenix, The Omen) is directing the film, with a script penned by Beau Thorne, a first-time screenwriter.

Rounding out the cast is Beau Bridges as Payne's mentor B.B. Hensley, and Mila Kunis as the female assassin Mona.

The adaptation of the M-rated Max Payne series has been described as suitably dark by those involved in the project, though the film is apparently shooting for a PG-13 rating.
                            Trailer in the link above.

As a gamer I say; Max Payne, PG-13? WHUT?!
