We didn't. There are a lot of minor Gouald still hiding, and a few major ones with unknown fates.

:Thanks to us finding a stockpile of drone weapons, we have reverse-engineered them and created an organic version. We are finished with the testing and YOU will be our first target.
:Order evacuation of all unimportant personnel. Raise the shield.
:The drones are heading towards us.

And yet their ugly littel snake heads will be crushed under a malet of asgard beams and FJN blasts if they ever crawl out form under the rock their hiding under. End result is the same.

It isn't. The Gouald may be megalomaniac, but they are quite smart. They can amass a fleet without even someone noticing. And if they reveal the fact that the Tauri started the Ori war, things can get worse and bleak for the Tauri. I'm not a Gouald supporter. Just don't underestimate the Gouald.

They can. They can even embed themselves into an SG teams, and presto! All-access pass for a hostile gouald into the SGC!

BTW, Don't you know the Gouald has oversized sleeves so they can pull more tricks for the SGC out of it? (joke)

Ah, toche, but why haven't they used them? They'll be wanting to build their strenth, but the FJN is growing stringer, and so are the Humans and everybody else now that they don't have to worry about the Go'uld. So th'll likely be wating for a break, a major war, or a new pice of tech to give them the advantage, darn, they should have never canceled SG-1.

And now thinking about it : the only Goa'uld we killed are those that have been around for a long time (at least long enough to be part of our legends & myths). What they need now is fresh minds to come back at us.

Hã ? 10k Thousands years ago, human civilization would never notice the city parking on the ocean o.O
And I dont think we would have become this powerful, actually I think the goa'uld would have found the city... it`s more likely...

And you can open an hyperspace window inside the planet.

Btw, why did the wraith stopped bombing the city ?

I guess Baal is the last of the system lords, not the last of the goa'uld.. There might be some goa'uld that just stopped playing the god game, and started the business man game ( as Baal did with the trust ).

                    1) The Ancients had ran out of drones. with probably several dozen hives bombing the crap out of the shields. If Atlantis had tried to take off, all a hive would have to do is ram it. One hive is with a 6km estimate in length is 1.5 times the size of atlantis. The force of the ramming, would be enough to either a) push atlantis back down, or b) collapse the shield which is still being fired upon by the other 40 odd hives, 80 odd cruisers, countless darts in orbit, while the power drains from take off and opening a hyperspace window. Taking off would be at best risky killing the last of your race in one shot. Where as hiding the city under water, and then leaving by stargate, your people have not only a chance to rebuild their population and race, but you have a base to come back to to finish what was started.

what odds would you like 60% death for your entire race, or 90% chance for you to live out the remainder of your lives in peace, with a chance to rebuild your civilization. Leaving behind a point at which to launch future assaults.

yea it isn't hard to see why.

                    2) The goa'uld have lost all their leaders, given their life spans, and how far spread out they are. Also considering that many actively hate each other, it will take a decade or more for them to regroup. With new leaders, new ideas(mostly) and a quest for vengeance.

they didn't take Atlantis back because the star drive is damaged.
It was stated that they could only take off in first strike because the replicators had repaired it when they were in control of the city.

I'm curious does anyone else think they may have done it because they knew the wraith would run out of food? If they had taken off and fled, the wraith would have hunted for them and even though they can't keep up after a century or two they might get the immpression that there was another galaxy with food in it. You have to assume the wraith have long range sensors so could the ancients really risk being followed?

The Stardrive wasn't originally damaged. The Atlantis team fired a drone at it to prevent the Replicators from taking the city in "The Return part 2". The Replicators repaired it afterwards

I think the wanted the city to remain in Pegasus to one day return. Also they were recalling ships to Atlantis so the plan was to use them I guess. I do not believe the Ancients would leave a fleet of ships on their planet and then leave the ships for the Wraith to take.

Another possibility is that they wanted the humans on Earth to develop normally. I think a gaint high tech city would one day cause mayor problems, like the Greek attacking the city to seize it and being wiped out with drones or something like that. I think the wanted the civilizations to develop normally without much interference.

Also I think I heard that the Ancients did not believe they were able to rebuild their empire, so it is possible they chose to live like ordinary folks and left the city behind for that reason

Why didn't the ancients return with Atlantis? To me it seems quite simple (assuming they had some sort of forward planning).

A few facts and assumptions about the ancients:
                              1) The ancients had been fighting for nearly a century with the Wraith, to no avail.
                              2) They spent alot of time focusing on Ascension.
                              3) Earth was developing quite nicely by itself
                              4) There were many planets inhabited by humans in Pegasus.
                              5) The Ancients felt 'guilty' for the creation of the Wraith

So, Atlantis is the last line of defense, and the only link to the Milky Way. The Ancients have two options:
                              A) Stand and Fight, they have no way to win, and Atlantis will either be destroyed or be captured by the Wraith.
                              B) Return to the Milky Way, and focus on Ascension. Atlantis will have a problem breaking through the Wraith lines, and will probably be destroyed before it manages to escape to the Milky Way.

The Ancients, not being natural fighters, decide to run. The only way they can do this is via the stargate.

There is another good reason for them leaving though. If Atlantis had been destroyed then the humans in Pegasus would be culled without a fight. As long as Atlantis remains then there is hope for the humans. The Ancients know that they cannot help the humans of Pegasus directly but, hope that the humans on Earth are sufficiently 'Ancient-like' to be able to
                              A) Defeat the Goa'uld if they ever invade
                              B) Find Atlantis ( The ancient left clues to help us)
                              C) Will have a instinctual need to help the weak (possibly programmed in by the ancients themselves)

In Short the ancients left Atlantis because it was the only thing they could do to ensure there own survival and the survival of the humans in Pegasus. As much as the Ancients haven't shown to be very 'tactically' minded, I think this is the exception.
