    <Outside Silvia's quarters>

Rubbing the back of his neck, Lyall gave the scientist a sheepish grin.
"I knew about the invisibility, just not about the guns." He gave a nod and started to walk towards the stairwell with her, figuring he may as well explain. He wouldn't want her to think he was an idiot. Atleast not a complete one.
COLOR="royalblue"]"With the last team I was a permanent member of, the doc there had the habit of giving everything weird nicknames. So I'm kind of used to the T.E.R. being called a Visibility Ray gun."[/COLOR] He couldn't help but chuckle at the memory of his former team, a pang of grief in his gut giving him reminder that they'd all been on Earth when it all went to Hell.

"I guess that makes sense, giving those guys a helping hand. The more people helping, the quicker we can get rid of these things." With a grin, he opened the stairwell door for her.

Save for a few scientists wandering here and there, the floor was pretty much empty. That didn't mean it was quiet.
From every door he passed, Lyall could hear bickering, exclamations, and numerical gibberish in more languages than he could recall pouring out into the hall.
Peering in to a random room, he sent Silvia a look "Alright ma'am, which lab would the T.E.R. be in?"

"Here we are, alien tech lab" Silvia said to his teammate.
"If I recall correctly, I put it somewhere there" "Where the hell it is?!"
After about three minutes of searching an creating chaos all over the lab, she finally found the T.E.R., when she heard a familiar voice approaching her.

"Hold, please." Robert turned just long enough to thrust his TER into the arms of his personal escort service before he practically flew into the lab and plowed right into the smaller woman. Instinctively, he grabbed her by the shoulders to keep her upright. He opened his mouth to apologize ... until he looked down and saw the person.

The only other brilliant one of his kind: Doctor Silvia DeLucia. He rolled his eyes in a slow, exaggerated loop. 'Fantastic.'

He leaned in close and whispered, "Just the one TER? You always did think on such a small scale. Maybe Foster would be willing to explain my genius." Still grasping her shoulders, he moved her out of the way. "I have no time to talk."

He scurried forward, past her companion, already rifling through the cabinets, cursing the individual that had moved just about everything around during his "tablet PC as lab" stage.

Tim opened his mouth to protest when a TER came his way; he might be an escort under orders from the general him self but that was where his duties stopped. He wasn’t that Lt’s servant for God’s sake!
Taking a deep breath, he closed his mouth and took a seat on one of the lab chairs where he could keep an eye on the man.
He placed Hughes TER in front of him on the table, ready to assist if needed. After all, how hard could it be? Probably not worse than assisting during surgery... Hold one clamp here... One forceps there... and nodded a greeting towards the other two in the room.

The man seemed slightly familiar to him, the woman on the other hand… ‘Must have missed her somehow…’
Tim rolled his eyes when he heard the Lt mention ‘genius’, ‘Here we go again. An officer with an ego bigger than he can handle.’

Lyall stood to the side, watching as Silvia tore apart the lab, ending up near where she started when she pulled out the TER.
About to ask if she knew where the search teams were, he turned his head to the door as footsteps came towards them. He only blinked for a second when suddenly two people had joined them in the room.
One was a Lieutenant he'd never really seen before, the other a Sergeant he'd spoken to once or twice.

Watching the Lieutenant waltz around and talk down at Silvia, Lyall stepped forward, placing a gentle hand on the doctor's arm and frowned at the man "Sir, I don't think it's service policy to manhandle the scientist."

Silvia remained astonished for a while, when a man, unseen, literaly lifted her and moved her away from the table, without even saying a word. A stream of insults was flowing in her mind, when she realized who had been: why him among all those?
When she came to, she nodded to Lyall, "It's ok, Benedict, he's always like this, he's my colleague Lieutenent Robert Hughes".
So, "Genius", what brought you here? Weren't you supposed to be in infirmary?"
she mocked Robert "What would your super-perfect- better-than-yours plan be?" We were simply going and look for Major Johnson, she should have contacted us one hours ago, but, given your conditions, I suppose you'll need some help..."
"Could he really have a plan to save all the base?!" she wondered "It should have been also one of my priorities."

Robert finally stopped his search -- even the comments of Benedict hadn't caused that -- and basked again in sweet victory. "Yeah, besides interfacing a TER with the base shield to make these furbies visible, I don't got that much. You win this time."

He was about to resume his frantic hunt when it suddenly hit him and he felt sick to his stomach. That -- particularly the loss of Major Stevens -- was a reminder he didn't need. "Wait just a damn second. Does everyone know that some legionnaire whacked me in the head with a staff weapon?"

Unsurprisingly, his day continued to get worse by the second. Surely there were a few more people around here that would love to get in on the action, he reasoned. "This is why I have medic following me around. Because I have a concussion and I need to be under observation. You think I brought him along for his weapons skills?"

He coughed into his hand. "If, and stress if, I needed help, I would probably come to you first. But what makes you think I need help?"

                  <alien tech lab>

Silvia whistled with admiration when she heard the plan "Interfacing a T.E.R. with our Asgard shield to extend its effect to the whole base: he's really a smart guy! Why it wasn't me that had this idea?! Well, if I had decided to dedicate my time to solve this problem rather than convincing myself to join a team I would have come up with a brillant idea, I'm pretty sure."
"Why do I think you could need help, you said? Other than a concussion? Well, you know the problems you find when you put together two different technologies: half of SG1 nearly died the first time....." she said with a smile.
But now she was stuck: she'd undertaken two missions, and she didn't know to wich one give higher priority. Her pride was suggesting her to stay and help Hughes: even if it wasn't originally her idea, part of the merits would be hers; besides that mission was important for all the base, it would end the lockdown and open the gate. On the other hand, she had just bound herself to a team, where her near future would be, a team whose CO was missing; she couldn't deceive them even before the beginning.
"Ok, Hughes, I'll trust you, I'll let you handle it on your own. But if you need help (and I suppose you will) radio me". she finally decided. Loyalty was more important than pride and that rivalry.

Robert held up his index finger. "Stop. Just ... stop." She was, of course, right. He hated that.

He closed his eyes briefly, "As much as I enjoy this love and hate relationship of ours, I do not need to be reminded of-" Because he'd already come all too close himself. He could still feel the staff weapon pressing into his throat. And because of it, he'd been unable to help Major Stevens.

He took a deep breath. God, this was the part of his job that he hated most. Actually having to make the command decisions. Especially when there might be lives at stake. Who was he to make the decision that might take their commanding officer away? He looked between Foster, DeLucia, and Benedict. "I suspect Major Johnson can take care of herself. But Foster can radio the security teams to keep an eye out for her. Do you know exactly where she was headed?"

He held up his hand to silence whatever dissent there might be before he pressed on. Cold, brutally honest logic dictated that the base was more important. "You'll make more of a difference helping me. If nothing else, the work will go faster between the two of us."

Even despite the brilliant idea, there was still the lurking doubt that he wasn't cut out for this either. He trusted DeLucia enough to keep him straight, which was more than he could say for most people. Still, DeLucia would never let him forget what he was about to say next; of that, he was sure. "The General said I got to recruit whoever I needed," he corrected himself, "Want. Whoever I wanted. I want you."

Tim listened to the banter between Hughes and the woman with an amused look on his face, definitely feeling fine to be left out of it.
The mentioning of concussion made him grow serious though, “Nice of you to finally mention the ‘real’ reason for me being stuck here with you, Lieutenant. Now at least I know what to look for...”
He sighed but kept his mouth shut, ‘… and so far I’ve been able to fend for both me and my patients very well when under fire, so just shut up will you! You know nothing of my weapons skills Mr Supposedly-know-it-all.’

Tim leaned back in his chair and looked at the two; they knew where to find him if they needed another pair of hands, as it was now, he was just happy to be a bystander. An observer if Hughes’ health took a turn for the worst.
That last slip of words did make him smile though, yep not more than human when it really mattered.

Silvia could have never expected Hughes to say these words, to put down his pride this way, even in front of other people!
That put her back in trouble, made her want to change her mind: "I can't deceive them, and I won't do it if I do what I'm more able to do, what is useful for everyone here; Major Johnson is surely a skilled and resourceful woman, and, furthermore, there will be men more qualified than me looking for her. I've got a chance, let's not waste it." she made her mind. "Let's just hope I haven't made the wrong choice, as I often do...." "Ok, Robert, if you say so, I'll stay.
Maior Johnson should have reported to General Blue in order to have her team activated and then contact us: she was probably headed to Blue's office."
She gave her T.E.R. to Benedict, asking: "Can you handle this on your own? I'm sorry, but I have to stay."
"Let's get back to work, then" "And let's hope....."

Robert shook his head. Was Foster just now figuring this out? "Yeah, Sergeant. You're here because of my concussion. Or did you think I requested you to help conduct surgery on a TER?" He stared at the other man, more than a little scatterbrained. "I don't think you're quite in the same ballpark as the two of us in your understanding of weapon mechanics. Unless you secretly have some weapons knowledge or skills that neither of us are aware of..."

Robert's head snapped up what felt like only a second later. 'A base crisis and she's trying to get her team activated? She picked a hell of a time to try to get that done.' Knowing where Major Johnson was headed, he addressed Foster once more, "Now, you can actually follow your orders and radio those security teams. Are we understood, Sergeant?"

Without really waiting for a response, Robert turned his back to Foster and placed an arm around Silvia's shoulder. "My tablet PC's in my quarters. You got yours lying around? We'll need that, obviously." They'd need to be able to interface between the two, on location, so that was another need.

Silvia had a sigh of relief, knowing that someone else would take her place in a rescue mission, someone more qualified than her, leaving her to her favourite job. "Thanks Sergeant"she said to Foster, then she turned to Robert.
"Yes, I think I left it somewere here...... Ok, here it is!" She turned her tablet on, opened the project storage and took a copy of the shields schematics. "Better having these..."

Tim gave the Lt a stiff smile, “If I have to save your off world; let’s just say that you’ll be glad my MOS doesn’t include TER surgery… Sir!”
He clicked his radio as he hopped off the stool and walked away towards the door, slowly shaking his head and rolling his eyes in a despondent manor towards the other sergeant, definitely not wanting to comment on the ‘following orders’ “Security, Foster.”

                              “Go ahead Foster”

"Do you have a location on a Major Johnson? Over?"

“Might have. Hang on a minute.” The voice disappeared a couple of seconds before it came back on the radio, “Marshall just ordered her down to the gate room. Over.”

Slipping a sigh of relief over not having to physically hunt the officer down, Tim nodded, "Thank you. Foster out."

Tim tucked the radio back in to its pocket and walked back across the room, “Major Johnson’s in currently in the gate room…”

"Fat chance of that happening with no CO, Sergeant," Robert shot back, under his breath, before Foster walked off, pressing down on the radio's talk button.

He returned his attention to the other scientist. Silvia was still nearby, having booted up her tablet PC. He briefly wondered if she had overheard his momentary lapse of control, but quickly pushed it out of mind.

Acknowledging Foster's success with a nod, he responded to DeLucia, "We're actually going to need to be able to interface between the TER and the base shield. So we're going to need, um," trying to think past his pounding headache, he was making a wire-shaped motion with his hands, trying to think of the word, "Uh, crap. A little help here, please?"

He finally gave up with a sheepish shrug. He knew she knew what he was talking about. "And someone has moved everything around since I've been here last." That it looked like a hurricane had just swept through the lab didn't help matters much.

He gave her a gentle nudge towards the shelving behind them, then provided the two Sergeants with a watered down version of what he and Silvia had to do. "We've got to re-identify the proper system on the correct crystal. Pretty much the same story for the Asgard equivalent. Obviously, connecting the wrong two could potentially be really bad." He paused to let that sink in. "After that, we've got to run some calculations between us -- since this isn't exactly going to be a perfect match -- to make sure that this will work the way it should and make any necessary adjustments."

Robert glanced at Silvia. "Anyways, once she's found what we're looking for, we can take a field trip down to the shield."
