It was nice to see Inara help with the 'petty thieving' instead of just disappearing for an episode to do what she does. What was even better was how good she was at it... she's got the snarky threats and planning ahead and fun weapons pointing-at-people skills.
So if they were ever to continue Firefly, and if Mal and Inara somehow ended up together and she needed to give up her Companioning, she'd have a job as a 'criminal mastermind.'
