    Which stone?
In deathly hallows, the stone does not save him at all, Voldemort kills his own horcrux not Harry. In the first movie, it is the protection spell from lilly that keeps him safe.

The resurrection stone just gives Harry the mental fortitude to do what he has to do, to ask those he loves to be with him. He has, over the books -all- the hallows and he willingly casts them off.
Power with humility, a rare thing indeed.

Ah yes but it's safe to say that without Hermoine Ron and Harry wouldn't have lasted the first movie.

I think what happens when you have someone with his power and ability grow up so perpetually downtrodden...he knows what power can do and knows, no matter how well meaning, total power isn't a good thing.

I think he saw the 'power' that Dudley had and realized, well dude was always the ultimate loser no matter how many advantages he had, so it gained him nothing. Then with his insign into Voldy and how that turned out, along with Dumbledore and how his attempts over the years ended up really gaining nothing...well so many going for power that ended up unhappy and miserable or horrible...the real power is in a group and friends and people to help you but that also keep you from going off the deep end.

Had Harry grown up in the magical community he would have probably had the ego that led him astray and to follow Voldy's path. In growing up human he grew up with limits and powerless, so he respects the power he has. I think there's a part of him that's always afraid of the power he has, so he respects it, which is why he doesnt' want too much of it.

I think the Tale of Three Brothers illustrated that what they did wrong is that they asked the wrong questions, and wanted the wrong things.

The first brother sought to defeat death by force, but didn't realize that the cheat itself could be cheated (why fight an invincible wizard fairly?) He also didn't realize that displaying power paints a target. Dumbledore correctly realized that if one possesses such power, it should come with humility. He also rightly realized that it was the most worthless of Artifacts: it granted power but had such gaping flaws in power.

The Second brother sought to humiliate death, but didn't realize that he asked the wrong thing: he didn't want to bring back the dead, he wanted his loved one back. he probably could've asked for her and only her and gotten everything he wanted. But he wanted more and got less. Besides, the dead are meant to be dead. Harry rightly realized that the dead can bring comfort and peace, which he used it for. But it can't bring them back, which is what the second brother wanted.

The Third Brother saw Death's gift for what it truly was: An empty promise, a feint, and so asked for something to evade it, not defeat it. He postponed death until he went willingly.

And that is the key to the tale: Death is inevitable, but by understanding it, by accepting it can we truly live. It reflects our idea of death through life (as kids, fearlessly challenging it. As adults, regretting and wishing to reverse. As elders, seeking to evade. As the dying, accepting and embracing it).

Voldemort was the Oldest Brother, who feared death and sought to overcome it by force. But the horcruxes, though his strength, were also his undoing

Dumbledore was the second brother, who sought to evade and undo death. That he put the ring on without thought betrayed his true nature.

Harry was the third brother, who -through his life- evaded death and finally, accepted it. He got power without wanting it and so could use it without falling into their traps: Master of the elder wand without wielding it, summoning the death without wanting to bring them back, greeting death without fearing it.

(Note: Dumbledore in his final moments however was also the Master of Death, as he greeted it with open arms. But the deadly curse put upon him by the Ring shows that he was the Second Brother: he wished to undo death and suffered his deadly fate because of it, thus the Second Brother was his true nature)

As to the power thing: What harry wanted (to be loved) was not achievable by power. Thus, Harry knew that power could never give him what he wanted. Unlike Voldemort, who saw his ideas achieved (at least partially) by power, and started to throw power at all his problems, never realizing how hollow the solutions were. Dumbledore learned this through shame and loss, and thus ensured Harry would grow up in a family that wouldn't value power like that.
