Hi, everyone
My name's Matt, I'm from Guildford in the UK. I have been a Stargate fan since the very beginning and watched all the shows upon their original airings. I also followed this website since it's early days, and I'm pretty sure I registered on these forums many years ago but neglected it a bit so I've re-registered again in anticipation of the big SG rewatch project.
I'm a self-employed musician. I teach guitar and play in a rock/pop function band called Return To Grace (www.returntograce.co.uk). Favourite bands are varied, but I have to single out Queen, Pearl Jam, Nine Inch Nails, Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead and Norah Jones. I'm also working towards freelance graphic design and illustration of some sort (digital art fascinates me), although I have a long way to go yet.
I'm, of course, a sci-fi fan, although my tastes have changed over the years. If Stargate started today it's entirely possible I would give it a miss, as these days I prefer my TV shows much more gritty and adult (Game of Thrones, Deadwood, Spartacus, Breaking Bad). It's one of the reasons I enjoyed SG Universe so much, because of the big focus on character and how dark it was. I'm very gutted it was cancelled.
I read a lot, mostly adult fantasy stuff but I try to mix it up. I'm obsessed with point-&-click adventure games from the 1990s! But I also enjoy my Xbox and look forward to the next Mass Effect and Skyrim. Strong storytelling to me is the most important factor in any entertainment medium, and Stargate was always good at that.
I hope to participate quite a bit in the rewatch discussions that will be coming up. My girlfriend (okay, recently EX girlfriend
) and best friend/soulmate is leaving the country for a whole year to work in Ethiopia, and I'm worried I'm going to be a bit lonely so any outlet for socialising, be it online or in real life, is going to be a big help.
