Not that I actually expect to win (but one can dream, right?), but I've entered the competition here: http://forum.gateworld.net/threads/7...-27-29-2010%29 Being a long time lurker, I finally signed up to the forum, only with my probie status I can't access my inbox.... Like I said, I don't at all expect to win, but if on the extremely off chance that I did, how would I know?

I agree - I've been on forums before that don't have this 'probie' status and never stayed despite having the same privileges as long time members straight away. I think that despite how much a waste of time it is there are unfortunately still people who go on forums purely to
1) spam or
2) aggrivate other members
people who don't have the patience to await approval obviously aren't that interested in interacting on the forum
I can understand the frustration but moaning about it isn't going to get anyone approved any quickerLast edited by Bagpuss; 24 August 2014, 01:28 PM.

I have a question, it seems that I have graduated from "Probie" as my posts, are posted automatically (don't have to wait on the Mods) I was able to update my profile, and has access to the PM system. My question is if I have graduated why does it still say "Probie" under my name?"Lose it. It means go crazy. Nuts. Insane. Bonzo. No longer in possession of one's faculties.
Three fries short of a happy meal. WACKO!."

There is both a probie user-title (a.k.a. rank or level) and a probie status or user-class. The two are unrelated and have different meanings. Probie can refer to both.
Probie user-title: Any new member with a total post count ranging from 0 to 24 will have the "Probie" rank/title and thus the word "Probie" in his user-title. This is not to be confused with the Probie status.
Probie status or Probie user-class: Due to aggressive attacks from spammers, all new members are on "Probie status". For one this implies you are on moderation, meaning a moderator must approve your message (forum posts, social groups posts, etc.) before it appears. Social group posts can also be approved by the group creator. However, because spammers simply used other means/features to spread their "spam", the forum signature feature, private messaging (PM); visitor messages (VM), editing posts, giving reputation/green to a post, accessing your own profile or other profiles and the pictures/albums feature have been disabled for "probies". This probie status is not to be confused with the probie user-title.
These user ranks/levels depending on total post count are:
0-24: Probie
25-49: Airman
50 -99: Staff Sergeant
100-249: Chief Master Sergeant
250-499: Second Lieutenant
500-999: First Lieutenant
1000-1999: Captain
2000-2999: Major
3000-4999: Lieutenant Colonel
5000-7999: Colonel
8000-9999: Brigadier General
10000-14999: Major General
15000-19999: Lieutenant General
20000-49999: General

I am really glad that I've been browsing his specific forum area and clicked this topic. The curious cat that I am wanted to know why I didn't have access to certain features in my profile - and now I know. Thanks for sharing this and putting it somewhere it's easy to find for a newbie (like me!)
