Finally, I was going to address some of the “fan†conspiracy concerns in today’s mailbag but got sidetracked by prep on The Hunt, spinning episode 20, and this blog entry. [...]

Final tech survey in North Van this afternoon for episode #216, The Hunt, followed by the production meeting. Between the stunts, special effects, visual effects, set builds, make up, and props, the budget was positively vertiginous. Fortunately, after making a few harmless trims (most notably scenes 56, 60, and the bone budget), it’s now only slightly dizzying.

When I was invited along for last week’s technical survey, I jumped at the chance to go door to door, querying local fans about the show’s mechanical and scientific aspects. Dear Sir and/or Madam – Could you spare a few moments to answer some questions about Destiny’s Faster Than Light drive? How satisfied are you with the ship’s capacitors? Very satisfied? Satisfied? Somewhat satisfied? Somewhat dissatisfied? Dissatisfied? Or very dissatisfied? Rate the shield’s efficiency on a scale of one to ten. Well, to my disappointment, the survey didn’t involve any canvassing or solicitation of opinions. Hell, it wasn’t particularly technical either. It was just a road trip out to a forested area in North Vancouver where we finalized the locations for episode 16, The Hunt.

Maybe they can change the gravity in every hour, so they have to grab the pine trees to not fall off from that rock. That would be weird! Or there will be some lightining aliens (Avatar's influence...). So don't judge this episode without seeing it, okay, gaters? You know... Books and covers."I was hoping for another day. Looks like we just got a whole lot more than that. Let's not waste it."
"Never underestimate your audience. They're generally sensitive, intelligent people who respond positively to quality entertainment."
"Individual science fiction stories may seem as trivial as ever to the blinder critics and philosophers of today, but the core of science fiction, its essence, has become crucial to our salvation, if we are to be saved at all."

We were out in the forests of North Van yesterday, shooting day #3 of The Hunt. All of the local weather people predicted rain but I remained the sole optimist. We were looking at a late crew call (10:30 a.m.) because we’d be going late tonight....

Another picture of the above to be had.
Spoiler:Also, looks like Varro and Greer have some issues to work out.

Yesterday was our last day (and night) in the wilds of North Vancouver where we finished shooting our location exteriors for The Hunt. While it’s nice to get away from our standing sets every once in a while, it’s even nicer to get back to those standing sets after spending a few cold and rainy evenings in the great outdoors. If you were there, you’ll know what I’m talking about. If you weren’t, check out the pics...

They may be almost entirely covered in shadow, but the profile on the left is definitely Dupod. The hair is a dead giveaway.
