I guess they know that Earth keeps the Stargate secret & they want to force their hand in revealing it ? Space Ships heading for Homeward Command would certainly raise some questions

Makes more sense to attack where the leaders are than some base. The Alliance doesn't want the Stargate

The SGC is under a mountain where as, as far as I know, Homeworld Command is in the Pentagon, which is a lot easier to attack from space
