I'll be honest, when I first saw the first eppie of SGU, my first impression of LF was not very good at all. I just didn't know who he was at the time and I also felt that he really didn't have the screen presence to compete with Robert Carlyle. Perhaps it was because there were no focus on him in the first half of the first eppie. Plus the fact that he was injured coming through the Icarus stargate which threw him out of commission, so really, there was no focus on his character. Remember how vitriolic people reacted at first when Daniel Craig was first announced as the new Bond? And he ultimately proved everyone wrong? It was the same thing here. Only as the show went on that I saw how perfect Louis was for the role and when I rewatched it, how much I seriously underestimated his talents. That was the genius of it. He didn't try to ram the character down our throat.
There is a great fanfiction story that really feels like it's the third season of SGU. The writing is above par and though it involved a relationship between two men, it's not smutty at all. It's more about how they and the crew coped with being on Destiny. Here's the link below:
