I've heard this before so any chance you could link comparison videos? There's a lot of music in Mass Effect (which I've never played), so I wouldn't know what you are thinking has been ripped off.

I would recommend playing it - its a great game. Just do some searching on You Tube the Mass Effect soundtrack is easy to find, I don't really want to influence your own analysis.

I asked a friend who is very much clued in on the technical side of music composition since I'm not and couldn't really express anything other than I thought they sounded similar, he said that the synth riffs are remarkably similar and thinks Joel Goldsmith was at the very least influenced by the Mass Effect soundtrack and that both were influenced by the Blade Runner soundtrack.

The weird thing to me is that its so different from Joel Goldsmith's previous work, makes you wonder.
