I think it was just never intended to last this long and was forgotten. Think of modern day the probes to mars. We planned for 60 days and they lasted multiple years. Maybe by time the ancients were ready to use it they realized that traveling to it was pointless since you can only gate to local planets and it was slow and outdated tech by time they were going to Pegasus.

Or perhaps other asscended beings stopped them from going.... If there was ori galaxy ascended and milky way ascended why couldn't there be far older ascended races this ship may have encountered that decided to not allow the ancients to visit when they tried so they assumed it had been lost and gave up.

Tons of explinations possible and with the way sgu is so far id bet on it not being rush's miracle ship or hidden secret but more practical of a reason as to why they didn't come back.

It makes sense on some level that they forgot about it, after all it's millions of years of time to misplace something. They may also have had much better space faring technology making destiny laughably obsolete. But on the other hand, they had the adress AND a 9th chevron on their gate. Unless they somehow misplaced all of their 9 chevron gates and the production notes on them I just don't see how they could totally forget about it. I would prefer we find out that the ancients did visit the ship from time to time in the past.
I'm an average viewer. As plain as they come. People make TV shows based on my demographic.

Oh come on. If you have no trouble believing that the Ancients could easily build devices that would last for a 100 million years without any kind of maintenance or repair, why would you have any trouble believing they would have trouble dialing either to or from Destiny?

I think we can easily conclude, from what we have seen before, that the Ancients simply would have created a device that would allow dialing to or from Destiny, regardless of distance. That is just the way Ancient technology works.

As for them forgetting about it, they didn't forget. People will try to tell you that they knew what the Ancients intended, but they are lying. No one knows how long the Ancients intended to wait. No one knows how far Destiny was intended to go. No one knows why Destiny was launched. No one knows if Destiny even has a destination.

Dude stop trying to further your agenda about proving Destiny has a self repair system by bringing it into other threads... there already is a thread for discussing, infact you started it
I dunno what to put in here now..

It's starting to get downright spammy.

This is where you start to run into problems. Just because YOU can easily conclude something, don't assume that everyone else should, or that you're even right

As for the second, when someone's OPINION differs from yours, it doesn't mean that they're lying. You don't know either and you surely haven't proven out anything with actual canon-based arguments.

The 9 chevron address was in the database. That is your proof right there. So, stop insisting on being wrong, m'kay?

Yes, the 9 chevron address was in the database but there were no details about where it went or what they should expect once they dialed it. Doesn't sound like something the Ancients were keeping track of or had any interest in does it?

For all we know they recovered the address from an old database and tried to dial to it with too little power and figured it was a bogus address.

Well, if you guys want to go over what is known about Destiny, that is easy enough.

We know the Ancients built it.
We know the Ancients sent it out unmanned.
We know it was launched a very long time ago, anywhere from 5 to 50 million years.

According to Rush (who has been know to lie and be wrong) the Ancients have never been aboard.
According to Rush, it contains the oldest known star gate, predating any in the MW galaxy.
According to Rush, the name of the ship is Destiny. I think we can be fairly certain rush is correct on these points.

We are can be fairly certain that the gate was the planned way of getting there. We know for sure that the Gate is one way to get there (we do not know if there are other ways).
We can also be fairly certain it was launched from the Milky Way, and probably built there as well.

We do not know when or even if the Ancients planned to go there, all we can say is that it appears not to have happened. If they ascended before getting the chance, then they intended Destiny to be out there a really long time, as ascension happened only about 10,000 years ago, and they launched it millions of years ago.

We do not know the reason why Destiny was sent out. There has been no hint as to its mission.

Besides the Ancients in general, we do not even know who built the ship. Whether it was some mad scientist, the government, a corporation, rebels, or whomever else.

We do not know why they did not go there. Whether they forgot, abandoned it, were unable to, never intended to, decided not to, or the project was still ongoing at the time of ascension is all a matter of speculation.

We do not know how many galaxies it has traveled though.

We do not know how many alien races Destiny has encountered.

Really, we do not know that much about Destiny. Which is why it is so much fun to speculate.

For all the people suggesting that the Ancients simply forgot about Destiny, or that some Rogue group built and launched it; don't you think the other Ancients would wonder "hey what's that ninth chevron for?"

I don't know I always thought of this ninth chevron thing as we have a gun. Now we're gonna make it bigger cause we're men. Seemed sorta like that.

I think that there are probably many ships like the destiny out there, and most of them will never be recovered. It was probably a large scale experiment intended to make contact with more advanced forms of life living in other galaxies, I wouldn't be suprised if they've already lined half of the local supercluster with gates.

For those of you who are not up on your astronomy, the universe's galaxies from groups of 50 or so, ours(local group) has 30, possibly more and we are close to the center of that group. The Local Supercluster has thousands of galaxies. They may have simply thought that somewhere out there was something worth finding, a new energy source, a new race of super advanced benevolent beings, anything that could be of value to know. Obviously they didn't think they were going to be wiped out and have to go to Pegasus due to the plague, I think it is quite clear that they were planning on colonizing new galaxies, with their own advanced species, or with humans.

They sent self sufficient manufacturer's to lace the galaxies with stargates, perhaps they just needed this ship to get their first city started(to provide it with adequate technology and such.

So, how long exactly did they intend to wait then? Making a statement like that, you must have a hard number. Please share.
Destiny: Launched at the height of the ancient empire
Atlantis: Left between 5 and 10 million years ago
Plague struck the ancients, Ayianna was there when atlantis launched and she carried the plague. therefore, the plague was around 5-10 million years ago
Vis Uban, Crown Jewel of the ancient empire, project was abandoned because of the plague.

ergo, the height of the ancient empire was some 5-10 million years ago. if we go by Frozen and assuming that the ancients do not have a million year lifespan, it was some 3 million years ago.

now a project can be long term, but no way in hell would the ancients have a multi-million-year experiment.

assuming the ancients intended regular contact but assuming they would want it beyond our local cluster, the ancients would wait a few thousand years tops.
