I only saw the episode yesterday and noticed Balding Asian Guy right away Even though he didn't have any lines his mere presence brought so much to the scenes he was in.
His note taking skills are surely the only reason the Destiny crew has survived for so long. He clearly stayed behind to protect the people on the planet.. and then to show the aliens who made it where they went wrong and teach them how to build a better one
