"Stargate Universe" Discussion/Speculation (Spoilers)

Personally, I have really been looking forward to the new series, and I'm not going to take this report at face value. I have a real problem believing that they would create a show that would alienate a large portion of the existing audience. But:

they just mean they were going to make it a fresher more modern series, like BSG.

That would really alienate me! I don't think that's going to be the case either, as BSG isn't known for it's humor. And it sure isn't Stargate!
It's a real shame that this story came out because people are going to go ballistic. It sounds like a description of exactly what I don't want from the new show, and very different from what we had heard about the show up to this point.
I'm still going to try not to be bothered about it, though until we have confimation that this story isn't a crock, because, frankly, I don't believe it.

Yes, and by the time the show even comes out, everyone will hate it. Then it will turn out to be actually pretty good, but people will be riddled with preconceptions, and TPTB will wonder WTF?

The news just got out why are you already guessing wildly like this? I don't understand the basic gateworld fan's reaction to things like this. Why? We don't know anything about it yet. And this is way too exaggerated. Porn stars? WTF?

I don't think I'll be reading anymore Universe threads it just grinds my nerves. As a fan who just likes watching the show and enjoying it, these threads are really depressing.

You can't judge the show until we actually see the show. Stargate has been around for too long and gone so deep in "lore" (lol lore, dont know the word) to have it messed up.

The producers and everything know what they are doing. DON'T WORRY! They wouldn't cancelle SGA to make a sub-par 90210 type stargate.

Christ people, give them a chance. I'm personnaly excited for it. Sure, it's dissapointing reading it's onbored a ship most of the time, but that doesn't mean they won't find an "atlantis" type city (you know, a base of operations, I dont mean a copy cat in the ocean or anything).

The ship wouldn't have enough power to keep flying around for 5 seasons =]. I think. Haha, anyway.

STOP WORRYING! It will be a good show. And if it isn't, for whatever reason, then we can go burn down the building

Concept so far sounds awful, everytime I read something about a show "reinventing itself for a new audience", it always sucks.

A show should get new fans simply because its GOOD and stands on its own. I find shows that have tried to gain a new audience always end up as something that is more dumbed-down, more flash and action to "excite" and a few fanwanky references to apparently keep the "old fans" interested.

I'll give it a chance, but I dont have much hope, id rather be skeptical so as not to be dissapointed than get my hopes up about a new exciting show only to be greeted with dissapointment when I finally see it. So forgive me for being skeptical. I've been dissapointed far too many times after reading similar things (dr who being the prime example for me).

Personally I was hoping for the new series to explore the outer reaches of the universe and excavate ancient ruins to discover some uber-powerful old race from aeons ago that are about to awaken from their dormancy. A sort of darker more "lovecraft" themed show with a focus on exploration and the humans being the "little guy" again. This new concept sounds like the opposite so far... I just hope im proved wrong!

That is what I want from the show. A lot darker, more research styled, etc.

SG1 started out with RDA, and 3 people in their late 20s/early 30s; that's kinda pretty young, yes?. I just remembered that. If this new cast that's "young and desperate" is about that age, then it might not be so bad, especially if they're again looking for a famous actor for the lead.

Voyager was a rehash of the original Battlestar Galactica. So why all the complaining.

I think we have enough new factors here to divide from other shows.

God people it wont be 18 and 20 year olds running around. Maybe one. . But yeah, I'm expecting them for the most part to be just a few years younger than what original sg-1 was (if not about the same age, to prepare them for another 10 years).

They could be basing that "younger cast" off what is currently there
