I totally didn't see the end of Lost coming either; I screamed at the TV when that happened; I couldn't believe the writers went there.

I also didn't see Franklin's actions from Sabotage coming, nor Young's in Subversion and Incursion I with the Rite of Mal'Sharan.

What do you mean you couldn't believe the writers went there. I mean it was a surprising ending, but it didn't surprise me that the writers went there, given other surprising things they've done earlier on in the season.

Well, it's not often that the writers do "true" 3-parters, where two episodes get cliffhangers in a row. I was expecting Human to be "part 1" and Lost to be "part 2", where the team gets home. I didn't expect another cliffhanger.

My friends who finally got to watch Incursion 1/2 last night sure weren't happy with the cliffhanger. (I recommended they don't watch the trailer or that would only make the wait harder)

I like cliffhangers They're a staple of series TV so I suppose I expect them - I just want it to be something I care about.

Cliffhangers are a very cynical way of getting the viewer to come back for the next season in my opinion, it's basically the writers not being confident enough of bringing people back through entertainment alone, so use this underhand tactic to bribe you into it. I personally don't think it works, a well made season arc that's resolved in epic style is much more likely to make people want more of the same than a cliffhanger, they seem to piss a lot of people off in fact. Lost City was the best season ender in my view, the epic storyline was resolved, but there were still questions left unanswered and plenty of places to go.
