I just watched it. It is amazing how Sam's technical and scientific explanations makes everything seem so believable and realistic, aside from the right amount of humor. However, can anyone explain to me how a person is supposed to feel having a wiggly little or big snake attached to his spine?? Of course they come in different sizes. Jacob Carter's Salmak was a small guy, whereas the usual goa'ulds are pretty big, including Tealc's symbiote. But I just cannot fathom what it would be like having such a creature --- deemed to be an intelligent sentient being akin to a human -- tucked away in your back.......

One of the best lines in a season full of exceptional writing:
"I thought the devices were supposed to enhance them physically not make them stupid!"
      Dear George.

Though a set up for later eps, there's no question this escape was primarily a soft landing following the opening. Though there were quite a few fun effects, it was the writing that made it more special. Janet getting on her high horse with Anise, Daniel trying to mimic Jack speed reading and Jack offering Daniel his candy bar, and poor Siler!
      What fun!

My favorite part was when Daniel tried to mimic Jack's speed reading. It was a good episode. Though Apophis later does get an upgraded flagship, so idk if thats what SG-1 destroyed here and it just delayed its construction.

One of my favorite ep's; I rewatch it often...
They should have had a scene with Jack zipping up behind someone and yelling "Beep Beep" like Road Runner; I would have peed my pants...

Pretty bad episode in my opinion, boring.

It does show that the Tokra have some pretty loose ethics. They clearly knew about the downsides from the beginning, as well as what they planned to use the test for.

Although I have to say, it seems like we get some pretty different views of the Tokra throughout the series. In other instances, we see the Tokra as extremely honor-bound and willing to sacrifice anything for the cause. Oddly enough, the different facets of the Tokra seem to align with different Tokra individuals. Anise is usually manipulative and always has the sense that she has an ulterior motive. Martouf was always there when the Tokra were open and willing to assist the humans. Aldwin showed up when the Tokra were hellbent on doing something that wasn't quite ethically on the level (blowing up Netu, extracting info from a small child), but unlike Anise, never when hiding something.

Since we learn later that the Tokra aren't as internally united as they appeared to be, maybe this shows the disunity between different factions within the Tokra.

Or, more likely, it shows that different writers were at the helm during different stints during the series. So for a few episodes while Anise was around, the Tokra were manipulative and deceptive, led by a seductive little minx.

Not really my favorite episode - thought it was kind of silly, actually. It felt like it was supposed to be a funny comedy episode ("Let's give them all superpowers!") but halfway through the writing, they realized that it would completely screw up the entire overarching story unless they gave it a serious ending that would make sure the superpowers never came back into the canon. Overall, felt kind of silly and unoriginal.

A plot hole question: while I'm gonna set aside the myriad questions about how these superpowers could possibly work (how does a virus make a human body 5 times stronger in that short a time? how could the body possibly survive a moment of the strain of such activity? wouldn't the bones and tissue just completely shred apart? and so on), couldn't Apophis just build another one of these super-advanced ships? This ship is supposedly enough to change the balance of power to Apophis irrecoverably - wouldn't the fact that he can build it at all mean that it's already happened?

BTW, Anise? Not really that hot. There are significantly better choices among the Tokra.

One of the best, right here. Not only does it tackle the ethics of using alien technology which may be harmful, but it has so many darned funny lines!

"My name's Jack, it means....what's in the box?"

"I don't know about you guys, but I'm getting some serious protein cravings."
                  "Meat...big, juicy, red....meat...."
                  "O'Malley's, in town."
                  "Let's go."

Lots of great visual gags, too, like Jack kicking a chunk out of Hammond's wall and then accidentally pushing poor Siler down the stairs. And the bar fight...pure comedy gold!

And yes, Anise is....ew. I find it interesting her name is spelled like 'anise', which is a spice that tastes like licorice...no wonder I don't like her.

Last but certainly not least, is our first glimpse of the changing relationship between Jack and Sam.
"Y'know; Lose it. It means, go crazy. Nuts. Insane. Bonzo. No Longer in posession of one's faculties. Three fries short of a Happy Meal. WHACKO!!!!!"

                  The perfect couple!

I love this episode, it's among my favourites.

I love the humour in this ep, there are so many funny lines / scenes..

One thing I wonder about.. They lost their superpowers relatively fast... Did the stuff Daniel read superfast stick in his head? I really hope so, I love the fact that what he wanted to do with his superpowers was to read! And what about Carter's book? Did she actually finish it while having the superpowers or did the computer issue prevent that? Even if she didn't finish it, she must have gotten pretty far with her writing, it should have been quite possible for her to be able to finish it even with her normal powers, but I guess we never heard about the book since...? (I'm in the beginning of S6 at the moment on my SG-1 marathon).

Funny episode actually! Crazy lines, even crazier actions! It's not one that I really take seriously (but then again, SG1 is a lot more light-hearted than say, SGU!) but love it for what it leads up to in the next few episodes.

Anise and Dirrti Nirrti had the most epic clothing style ever in the show. However, Anise was even weirder, because she didn't really put any makeup on her mouth or eyes, and still hat this porn-like dressing. It was like "take me silently, I won't feel anything".

The episode overall was one of the best ever in the show. Along with "Window of Opportunity", this is another Season 4 standalone episode which made it into the overall highlights of all the show. When those Jaffa flew up into the air, it was like Asterix and Obelix fighting the Romans or Buddy Spencer and Terry Hill beating up some gangsters in a bar.

Well, perhaps the Tok'ra have no need for make up?

Perhaps so, and I saw that Anise tried to seduce Jack shortly after.

I'm watching it now, she's wearing plenty of make up. But she does have a weird shaped mouth.

oh how I love this as a fun ep. Nice to see Sam in Civvies - but I do wonder what the costume department were thinking with the Anise/Freya outfit. (oh the poor actress, it made her boobs look lopsided)

Teal'c - fantastic stoic stuff from him. Nice teamwork, and Daniel, how cute was he - armbands that make you super fast etc and all he thought about was how much reading he would be able to do.

I did wonder why the smallish guy in the bar called Daniel, who wasn't wearing glasses and looks like a 6foot Canadian Ice Hockey player, a geek. That is something that SG-1 falls down on. At the beginning it was all baggy clothes and trying to at least cover up the fact that Michael Shanks is a big beefy guy whereas the Daniel from the film is a small skinny geek. I don't know why he suddenly started dressing normally - but it really didn't enhance the geek look.
(not that I'm complaining of course, it does make him very very easy on the eye)

I also quite liked that these armbands turned out to be useless, that the Tok'ra were a bit cavalier in their attitude towards testing them (as in: they didn't) and that ultimately they turned out to be useless. There's a moral to the story there but at the moment I can't think of it because I'm craving steak.
