Well here's an interesting issue to ponder...
The ancient Egyptians put a cover stone over the Stargate in order to prevent the gate from ever being opened again. Presumably, this is the same function that the 'permanent' iris would have served--namely, to prevent a wormhole from being established in that particular gate. We've seen this strategy used by other cultures on other planets later in the show as well.
So why did Jack and Daniel go through that whole song and dance of overpowering the gate on the other planet? Just suspend a large object inside the gate at the SGC and it shouldn't work anymore. And since the co-ordinates are the same for both gates, the only one that would have opened would be the Antarctic gate.
Furthermore, the MALP pinpointed the Antarctic gate's location as on that airfield in southern Utah; and this is where SG-1 found it. Therefore, we can infer that it had not been moved since the MALP arrived there. When SG-1 arrived, the gate was lying flat. How is it that the MALP was able to come out of the gate vertically?"A society grows great when old men plant trees, the shade of which they know they will never sit in. Good people do things for other people. That's it, the end." -- Penelope Wilton in Ricky Gervais's After Life

Don't know if anyone has picked this up, but this episode features the first appearance of (current) SG-3's Major Reynolds!
What a nod to fans to get the same actor to return years after making a small appearance in Season 2 to come back in Season 7 for a recurring role.
(Ok so checking the Omnipedia, not so new news! )

I have a feeling everyone who works with Maybourne has to wear guards that prevent them from grinding their teeth at night.
My Rating: 7/10

That doesn't make him a bad guy, he is simply a product of his environment.sigpic

Somehow, I am not convinced as to the need for an archeologist/linguist in the search and retrieval missions. Tealc, I can understand a bit since he is a warrior and would be quite useful if the situation becomes hairy.
For me, this entire episode is about searching and retrieving the lost objects.
I appreciate that Daniel is very supportive of his team but there is no need for him to accompany his team in the mission. Unless if they knew ahead that their opponents are speaking a different language or from another culture. But the mission is on local soil.
Maybourne, as usual, is quite the villain. I can't wait for the day when Jack gets him.
Overall, an entertaining episode.

Another great episode!
I love the whole second gate cloak and dagger, politics and other secrete agency stuff - because in real life you could very much see it playing out like that.
Hehe funny when Jack says"Carter wants to get a closer look with some he specialised... doohickeys" Hammond replies "Doohickeys!?" Jack "I believe that's the technical term, sir!"
Like someone said it was good to have a proper insight into the NID and just how far the conspiracy seems to go up on government channels.
Maybourne is such a shifty character but I think that's what makes him so interesting to watch, you just don't know what he is going to do next.
I wonder how they repaired the gliders and brought them back to earth because carter said they would of burned up in the atmosphere because they were so badly damaged...I guess they put them on the shuttle and brought them back that way.
I didn't get why they had to go back to that planet to go to the second gate, any planet would of done I would of thought.

I just have a trouble understanding why he has to be in missions similar to the one in this ep where they went to that base chasing the rogue NID. But that's just me.
Anyway, I am watching this ep again and I saw Col. Reynolds of SG-3! He is one of the other SG team leaders that I like especially in Zero Hour when he expressed how much he trusts O'Neill. I didn't realise he was already in this ep. Just a major here but what's mroe surprising is he was in NID! I wonder when he got promoted and transferred?Last edited by L E E; 12 August 2008, 05:53 AM.

Can someone explain to me where the NID got the DHD and what happened to it? I'm guessing it was the one found with the second gate but if thats the case why haven't SGC been using since then. I always assumed it wasn't working or they just didn't bring it back after they found it.sigpic

Plus this probably before it happen but our own DHD did get a update which enable it dial eight chevrons but I think that happen in later episodes.
I would also say that it better kept at area 51 with a research unit taking it apart for study but obviously that did not happen.
