I disagree, the human race IMO is far from lazy, it is likely greedy though, but that's a topic for another thread.
Nope,t eh human race is nothing. People are often lazy and greedy
And maybe because SG1 and SGA are a bit challenging (and be honest they are only a little bit challenging) thier ratings are perpetually low and they forever hang on the edge of extinction.
Sorry, has been pointed out,t he "perpetually low" hols for any cable-television. I don't think it's about challenging, tho. People watch challenging television just as they watch the completely dumb shows. And quite often you'd get the same people watching both.... at differnet times and for differnet reasons.
Pinky, are you thinking what I'm thinking?
Yes, I am!

i am just using it as a liberal word not a number of people. how many Stargate fans are there in the world? millions. so i guess a large proportion of those would probably buy the movies
sigpic USS Valiant - Fleet Advanced Escort - The bane of the Borg, Undine(8472), and any other species dumb enough to attack it
people. Stargate fans. know the movies are coming. and even if the films weren't that good people would buy them just for face value.
actually, using hte relatively small, as in infinitely tiny, number of fans here, by and large the opinion about the movies is a 'wait and see' on part of many of the members here.
many are not planning ot run out on the first day of the release to buy them...they're gonna wait for the reviews of friends, rent first and be rather cautious about it
it's pretty much the same opinion folks have about the s9 and 10 box sets...they're going to wait, get them on sale, find them previewed.
nothing like the overwhelming 'gotta have it' that folks had a few years ago
people. Stargate fans. know the movies are coming. and even if the films weren't that good people would buy them just for face value.
Actually, whilst there are some people who will buy anything with the Stargate moniker on it regardless of the content, most people are rather discerning and will only part with their money for what they consider good stuff. There are, as Sky said, quite a few people who are going to wait and see what the movies are like before parting with their hard earned cash.
As for ditching the series to make movies because they'll make more money - ah, no. Rather MGM is desperate to keep an ongoing title in their stable to make money as they do not have a lot of them at the moment. The series got cancelled and they're trying other avenues, it may or may not work.
While I wouldn't mind being pleasantly surprised, I can't see the movies being a slam dunk. After the last two seasons, there are too many people who do not assume that the stargate name automatically means high quality.
yeah. MGM isn't going to the movies cause it's gonna be a profit machine. Far from it. IMHO, i thikn they'll be lucky to break even
what they want to do is
get away from skiffy's exclusive contract on airing the show
keep the franchise going
make it look better and more profitable so that they can shop another incarnation of it elsewhere
the movies are to do that. they will be independant of scifi, i'm presuming independant from scifi's 'advisement' on plot/story and casting. and possibly a bone tossed at the fans
people. Stargate fans. know the movies are coming. and even if the films weren't that good people would buy them just for face value.
Not me. I knew S9 was coming out on DVD. Had a chance to buy it for $18 US. And declined.
OT note:
Spoiler:
I likely won't buy Ark of Truth. Continium....maybe. Unless they do blanket coverage on SFC and in SF publications as well as maintream(ish) media no one will even know they are out. I know I'll have to tell the bro-in-law when they are released. He has neither the time nor the interest in playing on these forums.
And I directly attribute how Cam and Vala were added in my declining excitement about the show.
fair enough but dont back me into a corner me dont like that
that's exactly what i was trying desperately not to do. hence me asking whether that was what you wanted to say (aka the corner you wanted to be in), rather than put words in your mouth.

probably very lucky. i think you're right. it's not about the money for now, it's about how the movies will hopefully help the franchise later. then one must wonder whether direct-to-DVD movies are really going to do much in the way of that.
