      The question is: Why do they wear them at all?

      Their enemies will instantly know to whom they belong by looking at their patches.

      Their friends will already know them, what they look like, what they wear, etc., so it's not like a patch will help them identify them.

      People who have never met them won't know or care about them.

          Yes they are much smaller.

          It's either someone who's supposed to be doing 'continuity' that really can't be bothered, or the actors just want to see if the fans will notice.

          There was one episode (can't remember which) where in one shot Daniel's Tau'ri patch is on straight, the next shot half hanging off, and then right again in the next.
