Season 10 - Promotional Photography

Before I read this thread, let me just say...

These images are horrible. Why do they go so tough with the photo manipulation? I will not save them to my harddrive and will pretend I never saw them. Hopefully, they won't turn up in any magazines I buy.

I wasn't too impressed with these promo pics. AT looks great, as usual, but CB? She looks like she's got no character in her face as she's been so airbrushed. How sad to feel the need to do that. They did that to Torri Higginson last year and she looked like a mannequin! All in all the photos are too fake and one dimensional. The Atlantis one's actually have depth and have not been photo-shopped to death, and are fantastic in comparison, IMO. I think they should have stuck to uniform shots for SG1. What's wrong with way the look actors look on screen anyway? Though the Atlantis promo pics are flattering the actors do actually look like that!

LOL!! I definitely agree with you, especially as far as Daniel is concerned. I'm over at the Daniel/MS Thunk thread, and I'm in the minority as to not liking the glasses (for one thing).

Glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like these pics very much. It is different to see them in street clothes, but I'd like to see them in uniform as well... all of the seasons have featured promo pics like that, so I'd like to see them for this season as well.

I like it better last year where they all wore black and stood in frunt of the iris.

I also liked Tealc's hairstyle from last season a whole lot more then this slightly shorter version of it here.

These photos remind me of movie promotions in the newspaper where they air the main actors beyond recognision.

Atlantis' season photography was so much better and more dramatic.

Totally agree. I like the black BDU's better myself. I also think (and this is just a matter of personal taste for me) that Daniel's hair is too short - he looks so much like Mitchell now, only with a pair of wacky glasses.

I must agree with Prion. I do PS retouching for a living every single day and IMO it was WAAAY overdone in these pics. It may have been a stylistic choice to let the clothes and hair have texture, depth and shadow and remove them from the facial features, but I wouldn't call it a good one. IMO it's just heavy-handed overkill, and completely unnecessary to go so far, it just makes them all look like plastic Barbie dolls. I feel sorry for the actors! I understand that many of you may not care about this, but to a professional it's completely laughable.

And I think Daniel's new glasses are absolutely horrible for the shape of his face. Sam's shots come out the best, the photographer must love her. I like that they used casual clothing, although I fear for some of the choices.

All just my opinion, of course. YMMV.

Hey there, Seshat! *waves* I agree, I think they went overboard with the retouching there. I noticed they did it a bit last season, too, but I think it's worse here. I did like Sam's shots very much, though, and I am so glad another person from the "Pond" feels the way I do about Daniel's glasses!

I don't mean to seem ungrateful, really. I'm very glad to see the shots come out, and I do hope they're used for good publicity.

It's just the retouching is so over-the-top, it's almost an insult to the actors, as if they aren't good looking enough on their own, you know? I do like the photos in general but they just could have been post-processed a lot less, IMO. The Atlantis ones are not like this. It seems it was totally different staff doing the 2 sets.

I'm with Seshat - all the faces are totally smooth, like dolls. Maybe we really got shots of the new action figures.

Yeah, weird shoes there! I think they should have ones with civvies and with uniforms... I mean, we haven't seen one with Vala in uniform, so that would still be different. Is this how they're going to look all the time on the show? I wouldn't think that military protocol has changed, and that they can wear civvies all the time on the base/off world. I hope this is just an "artsy" pose... I still don't like Daniel's glasses... frame shape doesn't really suit his face IMO...and the white/gray color looks a bit odd to me. Hopefully they won't look as bad in the actual episodes.

Yeah, don't like his hair much, either. And Daniel's hair is a bit too short for my liking (liked it better season 7/8ish)... his haircut almost looks like Jack's!
